Struggling...

DH was just diagnosed with cancer.

We wanted to go and talk to his parents in person to tell them (they are in their 80s). Were planning to do it last weekend, but they cancelled (DFiL had a nasty cold).

We live 200km away, and now we are hesitant to make the trip. On the other hand, we don't think this is news that should be shared over the phone.

What would you do?

Hmmm, I think if your dh was my son I'd want to see him. I'm so sorry Flowers

I think it depends what kind of cancer it is. If it is one of the “better” cancers (I.e. if he’s been given a very positive prognosis) then over the phone is probably ok, but if it’s more complicated or not necessarily ok then maybe video chat or a visit would be the only option?

Sorry for your news, by the way, I have experience of both “ok” and terminal cancer and it’s not particularly easy either way so my heart goes out to you Flowers

I think it depends on what cancer it is.... terminal then yes but going to get better, no.

AlwaysCheddar · 19/03/2020 22:05

So sorry xx

I think you should go and tell them in person

I meant to add, I would consider it to be a case of essential contact. I would imagine that his parents would want to know, no matter what.

Can you self isolate for 14 days and then go?
