I know we're social distancing but I have no other choice as there's no online shopping. It wouldn't be a full shops. Just grab a few bits and leave.

YANBU, you've got to eat.

Salene · 19/03/2020 20:51

I've been leaving mine in the car but I wouldn't normally , I'd take them in normally.

PenelopePeachStone · 19/03/2020 20:54

If you’ve gotta go you’ve gotta go x

Parmavioletmum · 19/03/2020 20:58

I'm having to do the same tomorrow morning. I always do a big shop when I get paid on the 20th and get it delivered then just get fresh top ups throughout the month. Cant get a delivery slot until beyond the 3rd of april so I've no choice but to go shopping and got noone to have the kids. I'm getting up 1st thing though and going as early as I can.
Weve got to eat and if you've got no option like me and I'm sure plenty others, then you need to do it xxx

HairyDogsOfThigh · 19/03/2020 21:00

How old are they? Can you leave them in the car?

WyomingWoman · 19/03/2020 21:03

I wouldn’t if at all possible purely due to potential ugly scenes of people fighting over tinned tomatoes (as in my local).

How old are they? If over 8 I’d leave them at home for a quick shop, with access to a mobile or Messenger on a tablet so you can keep in contact with them.

Nikeybikey · 19/03/2020 21:44

So reassuring. I was expecting everyone to be judging me for this. They're too young to leave at home. The shops round here are very calm so fighting isn't a concern 😊

There is a difference between social distancing and social isolation. Distancing means you can go and do essential tasks like food shopping. Better to do this and leave the online food shop slots for those who cannot go out at all.

nogoodusernames · 19/03/2020 21:54

If it’s your only way to get food then what are the other options?? Do the people who voted YABU think you should just not eat :/ or leave potentially very young children alone at home.

WriteronaMission · 19/03/2020 22:09

I'm waiting for my DH to get back from work (and actually told him to grab the essentials I need on his way home). But if I had to, I'd take them in. It's that or not eat. I left them both in the car for the bank.

FlorencesHunger · 19/03/2020 22:17

Ofcourse you aren't unreasonable, especially if you have no choice. I have opted for ordering whatever I can online. Not from supermarkets but other food suppliers like the ones who provide food for restaurants. I get milk delivered once a week but can add other things like cheese and eggs from them. There is also a local butcher so can order from them or go to them. Only thing left is fresh stuff like fruit and veg and cat food, needs must.

Burgerandchipvan · 19/03/2020 23:07

I took my toddler the other day because I've no other option. He did a good job smiling and waving at everyone. We obviously kept our distance from people and he wasn't to touch anything we weren't buying.

PumpkinP · 19/03/2020 23:15

Not everyone has a car, mine will have to come to the shop with me as I'm a lone parent , no one to leave them with and not old enough to leave at home alone. Fb is all well and good but it's been made clear in my area that the help groups are aimed at the elderly (which is fair enough!) So won't be asking on there. Needs must!
