How can the tories do this and squeeze the parents who are losing jobs but still must pay fees, or risk the nurseries going under?

They’re supposed to be the party of supporting businesses.

AIBU to think this is a disgusting and immoral of the government?

That articles from the 4th of March. I'd wait for updated news before scaremongering.

FNuts · 19/03/2020 13:18

Article is out of date and the situation is rapidly changing.

StatisticallyChallenged · 19/03/2020 13:22

It's still accurate for after school clubs

TabbyMumz · 19/03/2020 13:41

I thought nurseries were still charging people fees even though their kids werent there?

DivGirl · 19/03/2020 14:04

OP, I don't think you've understood that article at all. It is written to be quite misleading so not your fault.

Essentially most companies (including, but not limited to, nurseries) will not have insurance which covers CV19, contagious diseases started being specifically excluded after SARS. Some companies will have it included in their policy that cover is provided for notifiable disease outbreaks, the government signed to make Covid-19 notifiable in February. This does not change the fact that most companies do not have it included.

Nothing the government can do will change their policies, nothing the government has done has excluded them from claiming.

This outbreak is undoubtedly terrible, and the impact on the economy is likely to be devastating for years. But this particular issue with insurance is not the Tories fault. Sorry.

Our nursery is remaining open, but I will be taking my child out after friday. I'm happy to pay tbh as a sham, people will be losing jobs otherwise. I understand some people are not in a position to do that.

JoshArcherStoleMyTractor · 20/03/2020 05:29

You do seem to have misread the article, government have also removed business rates for nurseries for the coming financial year

littlejalapeno · 20/03/2020 08:08

Thanks @DivGirl that does make sense. I think I got a bit swept along by the other parents in our nursery group who are not happy at having to pay. I’ve also just lost my project. As a freelancer there’s no more work on the horizon. So I will be home to look after DS but still having to pay out, which won’t be sustainable for long. Think the stress of it has upset my usually good reading comprehension.

We're moving this over to the Coronavirus topic now, @littlejalapeno Flowers

flowerpot6 · 20/03/2020 11:53

Hardly anybody is covered. Insurance companies won't pay out, it's considered a force majeure. Thousands (if not hundreds of thousands) of businesses will go under.

LouF2019 · 21/03/2020 07:18

So should the nurseries not be charging parents whilst there child is not in the nursery? Or is that not what you mean sorry

SmallChickBilly · 21/03/2020 09:08

Will nurseries not be able to claim the 80% wage grant to relieve pressure on parents having to pay them?
