Sorry if there is already a thread about this!
Those of us who are lone parents, or parents who have had to isolate away from their other halves, basically any parent who is alone in the house right now (or even if your other half has left you with the caring responsibilities whilst he/she WFM too) with their children coming home tomorrow indefinitely but who still have to work from home- how on earth do we do this? DD isn't able to entertain herself, she is 3 and quite loud, won't sit through a 9-5 day colouring and watching television. I'm also a student so both WFM and attending online lectures and have an assignment to write. Half glad to have her back, half dreading how I'm going to get anything done 😂
Preparing to work around this but how? What is everyone else doing?

  • I am not after advice on how to wriggle out of my work and uni. I don't want to, nor do I have a choice nor can I be in a position where I am unable to pay bills, and having to retake a year.

I think most sensible people realise that the work will have to fit around the child, not the other way around.

This.

You're BU, blackandwhite.

@NorthernLass75 sounds like you work for a great company!

I work for a big public sector type organisation. They have been over the top caring for our wellbeing this week in particular and I'm hoping we're going to be supported flexibly to work around our kids.

Mine is a lively 6 year old boy, I don't stand a chance!

I'm another one who will be fitting in work around my dc. My dc are big compared to some pps (7 and 8) but there's no way they can occupy themselves 9-5 each day. At the moment my job can choose between having some of me or none of me.

I'm in NL, we've been all home since Monday schools and nursery shut last week. Two teens with online school and a toddler. The toddler needs looking after. DH and me made a plan and are currently taking it in turns to work, informed our respective teams/managers of our situation and plan and so far we've not been doing too badly. Lots of our colleagues are in exactly the same situation right now, so sympathetic. I do work with a great team and we've got each other backs in this shit storm of a situation, it really helps to know this. My day is currently starting at 5am even the dog is still asleep, but I'm getting stuff done !

Monday was very bumpy and stressful, Tuesday better but by Wednesday we got into a rhythm. We're working in small blocks at a time, we have a good office space where the door can be shut , both have desks so this helps ! So far my toddler has entertained multiple people with a rendition of Go Jetters , and the ABC song..

Good luck
