Emergency dental treatment + isolation

Posting here for traffic sorry but I’m in agony and desperate.

I’ve split my tooth, I’m in horrendous pain and nothing is touching it. I’ve been taking pretty heavy duty painkillers that I’m prescribed for another condition and I’m still in tears with with the pain. It’s awful.

There’s an emergency dentist near me BUT we’re in isolation as my son had a cough last week. What on earth do I do?

Any advice greatly appreciated. Can’t cope with the pain any longer.

Have you phoned the dentist/111?

Indella · 18/03/2020 21:52

I’m on hold for 111, have been for over an hour now. Spoke to the dentist who said they can’t see me which I expected and to phone 111

you're allowed out for medical treatment if needed

Indella · 18/03/2020 21:53

Not sure why voting is on as it’s not actually an AIBU sorry.

I think you have a moral obligation to make sure the dentist is aware of the situation. They could well have an underlying health condition.

I'm not sure where that leaves you if no dentist will see you though...

Mrsmorton · 18/03/2020 22:02

I don't practise anymore but every single dentist I know is still seeing emergencies.

Maverick66 · 18/03/2020 22:14

I was at dentist for check up today but as of today it's emergencies only so I think you will be seen.

bridgetreilly · 18/03/2020 22:56

Have you actually read the guidelines for self-isolation? You're allowed out for medical reasons.

RedSoloCup · 18/03/2020 23:19

Have you tried rinsing 3x a day with salt water?

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 19/03/2020 00:50

Ow. You poor thing. Sounds horrible.

Hope by now you've managed to get some effective pain relief.

HamsterHolder · 19/03/2020 03:33

That sounds like a horrific situation to be in! The dental work would be known as an aerosol generating procedure and high risk of spreading infection. If there procedures are similar to hospital it'll mean them wearing a level 3 suit and then deep clean of room afterwards. Im not sure if they'll be willing to do this, when are the 14 days up?

HamsterHolder · 19/03/2020 03:34

And it would be 14 days from when the cough started

Indella · 19/03/2020 13:36

I managed to get some relief and sleep with a LOT of painkillers. The end result was I need to wait until I’m out of isolation. 5 days left, hoping it doesn’t get any worse before then.

I’m not a dentist so not sure if the split in your tooth could be temporarily fixed with a DIY filling from a pharmacy. Is there someone who could collect a kit?
