It's not Covid-19 related but I have a weak immune system and would love some tips for building up my immunity and getting rid of a cold.

I've seen all these vitamins and everything and this article is the most helpful I've seen. Advice?

can't be done, it is Paltrow-babble. Eat properly, get fresh air and outdoor exercise (that is allowed for everyone) and stay clear of other people.

Eat a healthy diet with lots of different coloured fruit and veg. Pretty much everything else is snake oil.

I seen my GP once in 15 years (ski accident) and had one cold in 18 months. I sometimes think I am the luckiest woman in England. This is what I find works for me - get lots of sleep (very hard with babies but luckily mine are at university so only the holidays are noisy). Eat lots of healthy vegetables, eggs, fish, meat, sea food. Avoid processed foods. Drink tap water. Get outside inthe summer as the best way to get Vit D without suncream on for about 15 minutes a day from April to Oct with not much on - in England you won't burn. Vit D is not absorbed as well through pills or other foods in my view. Try to move even if it isj ust carrying hedavy toddler and shopping until you sweat. I just came in from 90 minutes vigorous mowing of about 3/4 acre of lawn for example.

As people say above try to have a lot of good foods. Avoid people who are coughing all over you - now I don't have 5 children with colds in the house on a constant basis and I don't commute on the underground and I work from home and don't have air con I am sure that is a big part of rarely catching anything.

Vitamin D, magnesium and probiotics would something I would think would make you healthier. But not sure if it will boost your immune system per se.

  • Eat a varied diet heavy on veg, fruit, and whole grains
  • get adequate sleep
  • don't smoke and moderate alcohol
  • get sufficient exercise on a daily basis
  • mitigate stress

Vit C, D, magnesium and zinc is the cocktail I'd go for. That's on the top of healthy diet and proper sleep.

I think its the luck of the draw sadly. I’ve never been bed ridden with flu, no idea when i last had a cold, lived in current area since 2006 and not yet seen my gp. Last time i was ill was a winter sick bug over 6 years ago.

Maybe growing up with horses and thinking nothing of mucking them out and then having lunch without washing my hands helped. (None of my sibling are ever ill either)
Good diet and being fit must also help.

I have an illness that weakens my immune system.

Vitamins in general aren't much use. But a combination of vit c, vit e and liquid zinc works for me for coughs and colds. Some people take vit D as well but you must be careful not to take too much.

I also take Dr Vogel echinacea tincture, and Dr Vogel echinacea and sage throat spray which is brilliant.

I000iu or 25mcg a day of vit ,D3. Unless you have a condition like sarcoidosis. Told to take this by nhs consultant endocrinologist, v important for women esp if overweight or olive dark skinned .or end of winter(now)

Nettleskeins · 18/03/2020 15:36

You.can buy it in pharmacies. Multivit often dont have enough vit d proportionately. 10mcg or 500iu a day wont be enough if you are deficient in vit d

Sloth66 · 18/03/2020 17:10

Vitamin D3, vitamin C, zinc, magnesium and B6.

Then eating well, plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables, moderate exercise and sufficient sleep/ rest.
