Bought a Pret tuna sandwich this morning (8.30am)

Forgot to put it in the fridge when I got to work (NHS coronavirus chaos....)

Ate about 3 bites at 12pm before deciding maybe it wasn't a great idea. So about 3 hours out of fridge. So it wasn't warm, but not very cold...

All of my googling tells me I'm going to get very ill. Please reassure me?

I am severely emetophobic and terrified I'm going to get food poisoning Sad

Nothing you can do now, just wait and see.

HoffiCoffi13 · 17/03/2020 13:00

It’ll be fine.

bemoreeverything · 17/03/2020 13:00

You will be fine. I used to take tuna sandwiches to work regularly and we didn't even have a fridge.

BlueRabbitWasNaughty · 17/03/2020 13:01

You'll be fine - surely bacteria won't even have had time to multiply in three hours.

Pinkarsedfly · 17/03/2020 13:02

Most buffets have tuna sandwiches out for a good few hours.

Nonnymum · 17/03/2020 13:02

I think you will be fine

Shoppingwithmother · 17/03/2020 13:04

For goodness sake, people take tuna sandwiches with them in the mornings and eat them for lunch without refrigerating them all the time.

Sorry, but you’re being ridiculous.

Tinging · 17/03/2020 13:05

Chilled food is legally fine to be unrefrigerated for up to four hours www.food.gov.uk/business-guidance/chilling-food-correctly-in-your-business

Spied · 17/03/2020 13:06

Non- issue really.

YeahWhatevver · 17/03/2020 13:06

You'll be fine.

CandiceSucksCandy · 17/03/2020 13:11

As long as you didn't store it on a radiator and then wipe your bum with it before eating, you'll probably be fine.

SonjaMorgan · 17/03/2020 13:13

Do you have a medical condition to cause you to worry so much?

I leave leftover rice in the microwave for over 12 hours and then eat it. I also regularly eat out of date food.

5foot5 · 17/03/2020 13:13

Of course it will be OK. I regularly take a tuna salad to work with me and it must be out of the fridge at least 4 hours before I eat it

Wynston · 17/03/2020 13:14

I really wouldn't be concerned about it.....we always have pack lunches and never put them in the fridge.
When we do buffets at the pub i believe food is allowed to be out for 2hours???

BuffaloCauliflower · 17/03/2020 13:16

It’s completely fine. Children never refrigerate their school lunches.

Bluntness100 · 17/03/2020 13:16

This would be fine, food can go three hours without refrigeration, it’s after this point it can start to grow harmful bacteria.

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/03/2020 13:18

You will be fine...you are talking yourself into getting ill...get a grip !!!

mbosnz · 17/03/2020 13:19

That will be absolutely fine. (Remembering warm soggy tuna sandwiches at school. . .)

foxychox · 17/03/2020 13:27

you' be fine and thank you for a thread that does not involve COVID-19!!!

4amWitchingHour · 17/03/2020 13:31

Wtf? Eat your sandwich!

Cyllie33 · 17/03/2020 13:32

You’ll be absolutely fine. I hate sandwiches/salads straight from the fridge, they have no flavour. I always just keep packed lunch in my bag/drawer at work.

Winkywoop · 17/03/2020 13:33

@foxychox Grin you are very welcome (although the most boring non-covid thread there is....)

Thanks to those that have been reassuring! Feeling less panicky about it now.

Can always rely on a couple to get their knickers in a twist about someone innocently asking for advice.....What happened to being kind to each other etc etc? Confused
