See black lump on gum, been like it for well over a month, waited to see if it was a tooth coming through but now her front middle ones are and still not where the lump is. Rang HV who said if I'm worried to go to GP. Thinking now is safer than a couple weeks time.. AIBU? Please if you know what it is tell me!

Dentist would be better.

redwinefine · 17/03/2020 11:01

Agree with LetMe - dentist would be better

EvenMoreFuriousVexation · 17/03/2020 11:01

I think you'd be lucky to get an appointment (my local surgery has gone to telephone-only) but no harm trying.

If she's registered with a dentist then I'd try them first.

LetMeTryAgain · 17/03/2020 11:02

It looks like a tooth eruption cyst which will disappear when the tooth cuts through. They're harmless but for reassurance the dentist would be better than gp.

20viona · 17/03/2020 11:03

That's part of tooth eruption I wouldn't go the doctors or the dentist due to the current climate it's normal.

EffieIsATrinket · 17/03/2020 11:05

What 20viona says. It will go away when tooth pushes through, might bleed a little.

Isthistrueor · 17/03/2020 11:16

It looks normal to me.

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 17/03/2020 11:22

Looks similar to the colour of another area on the other side. If you have to do anything, can't you email a picture to the GP or dentist? I wouldn't go to a surgery.

Butterwhy · 17/03/2020 11:25

Can you phone the GP? Ours is doing telephone consultations and can email photos, they decide whether they can help or signpost over the phone or whether it's worth going in. They havent been that busy today weirdly when I phoned earlier! Obviously not all will be the same, but you might not have to go in.

Burgerandchipvan · 17/03/2020 13:06

I'd speak to the dentist rather than a doctor for advice.

Monkeynuts18 · 17/03/2020 15:42

I have a friend whose son had something that looked very similar to this a few months back. She took him to the GP and was told to go to the dentist. And she took him to the dentist who said it was a harmless tooth eruption cyst.

Obviously I don’t know if your boy has the same thing but maybe a dentist would be your best bet. Potentially saves you from going to a GP surgery AND a dentist surgery!

Redcrayons · 17/03/2020 15:43

My surgery is telephone appointments only for the foreseeable future, so start with the dentist.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 17/03/2020 17:02

That looks like an eruption cyst. Its Dentist over GP. It's totally benign and I personally would leave it, it will resolve itself when the tooth erupts and doesn't require any treatment

goolish · 17/03/2020 17:14

Thank you all v much for reassurance. Will wait and see if it goes when teeth come through
