To go out

So both dh and myself are in a higher risk group but we both have a relaxed approach to Coronavirus and don’t believe in putting our lives on hold.

So I planned a meal out with friends who live around the Country on Friday night. I will need to travel by public transport to get there. We haven’t seen each other in ages and planning a night out is tricky. Dh Is ok with this but his brother has just had a go at me about it.
So AIBU and foolish to risk this and should I postpone/cancel?

I'd say YABU

IceColdCat · 16/03/2020 12:29

As you're in a high risk group, the person you're putting at risk is yourself. If you're OK with that then go (assuming you're healthy on Friday). You're no more likely to be a transmission risk than anyone else who is out and about - the risk is to yourself if you catch it.

Dishwashersaurous · 16/03/2020 12:29

I think that in the next few days the rules about what is considered ok will change. So I would play it by ear and not make any rash decisions now

adaline · 16/03/2020 12:30

It's not putting your life on hold to make sure you stay healthy during a global pandemic Hmm

ilovesooty · 16/03/2020 12:46

Make your own mind up. Why does your bil have any right to interfere?

redwoodmazza · 16/03/2020 13:30

Stay in.
Stay alive.

Isthistrueor · 16/03/2020 13:36

Do as you please. Unless the government places us in lockdown, it’s still a free country.

Stefoscope · 16/03/2020 14:00

I would go and enjoy yourself.

Topttumps · 16/03/2020 18:57

Cancelled

Beesisabuzzin · 16/03/2020 19:07

I'm very glad you cancelled. Stay safe.

Incrediblytired · 16/03/2020 20:06

Good call I think!

lotsofdogshere · 16/03/2020 20:14

yes good call. Its tough to cut back on social stuff but if we're in high risk groups (I am) then cutting back seems right to try not to add to the NHS pressure

Dishwashersaurous · 16/03/2020 20:26

Given today guidance- good call.

Maybe we could all have virtual dinner parties- FaceTime and prop the iPad up and all eat the same food

flyingspaghettimonster · 16/03/2020 22:14

Yabu selfish. Srsy home and stop putting people at risk unnecessarily. The country has 5,000 respirators. Don't take one from someone who didn't deliberately put themselves in harm's way.

Scrunchcake · 16/03/2020 22:17

Thank you for cancelling. This isn't just about individuals deciding whether or not to put themselves at risk. As a PP said you could end up using capacity in hospital that someone else needs.

NoMoreDickheads · 17/03/2020 19:45

YABU especially now the guidance has changed. You can't afford to have a relaxed attitude to Coronavirus, especially if you're in an at risk group. I's very serious.

Abracad · 17/03/2020 19:47

Presumably you’re so relaxed that if you get ill you won’t take an ICU bed from someone who has been various but gets ill anyway? No, thought not. Grow up and think of everyone else in your community. HTH

opticaldelusion · 17/03/2020 19:47

I guess if you get it you're happy to burden the NHS? Seems a bit selfish

Neverender · 17/03/2020 19:48

Not worth dying for a dinner imo

opticaldelusion · 17/03/2020 19:48

Just seen your update. 👍🏻

Rosecatter · 17/03/2020 20:17

I think things will have changed again by the end of the week anyway

Lynda07 · 17/03/2020 20:42

Ridiculous thread. Of course you don't go no matter how relaxed you are, you shouldn't even have to ask. Neither do you start two paragraphs with, "So".
