For being so bloody stressed out?

Honestly am beyond stressed out and just can't handle it. I'm a single disabled parent and am struggling so much right now.

I ordered my usual Asda shop that I do every two weeks on Thursday, usually get it delivered on Friday night. There's no loo roll or antibacterial wipes, fine, I carry on. Then there's no slots until Monday (today). Great because I've got no food in but fine.

Go on this morning to find 18 substitutes including that they've subbed ALL DS's baby meals with... cheesy straws. Because crisps are definitely a dinner! They've replaced my pasta with a Little Dish meal and all the other pasta sauces with soups. They've given me floor wipes instead of kitchen roll and newspapers instead of cat litter. I want to cancel the order and get a refund but can't as it's out for delivery.

So I spent an hour on hold before finally getting through to a very impatient guy who finally says I can have a refund but next Tuesday! Which is really unhelpful as I have no food and need to buy food so me and DS can actually eat. They then say if I phone my bank I can get it quicker. Phone bank, they need an email directly from Asda to process me a quicker refund. Back on the phone to Asda, I've been on hold 50 minutes now. Trying to look after a DS who keeps screaming so I can't hear if I'm off hold yet and the hold music is really loud but the repeat message so quiet I can't tell if someone is actually there if I turn my volume down but the music is too loud if I turn it up. I'm just beyond frustrated.

They are some crazy substitutes. I can understand why you are stressed.
Please breathe maybe step outside with the phone for a few minutes. Do you have any friends who could call for you if you are getting overwhelmed.

Froq · 16/03/2020 09:22

Don’t worry OP, at least those with pantries and freezers stocked full with several families’ worth of supplies will be ok.

LittleMonstersMummy · 16/03/2020 09:30

@Mydogatemypurse I took a risk and left my phone for a minute to cuddle DS and calm him down which has helped us both but mostly I just don't get the subs, they're very odd!

@Froq Yeah but meanwhile I don't have food for DS or I and I'm terrified. Going to a shop takes a huge amount out of me too.

At Tesco you can refuse the subs at the door and they get automatically refunded. Unfortunately due to the fools that are clearing the shelves faster than they can stock them it’s going to be like this for a while. Especially as people self isolate. I get a delivery every Monday and am booking 2wks in advance as you can book 2 slots at once

Darbs76 · 16/03/2020 09:33

And Tesco subs are very weird too. I think you can make a note at Tesco to suggest other subs: maybe do that for the next shop if Asda allows it too

dontdisturbmenow · 16/03/2020 09:38

Well according to a particular poster, that's too bad for you because her kids come first and she thinks stock piling is fine. The fact that your disabled child won't be able to eat as well as hers is nine of her concern.

Free, I hate selfish people. Hope you manage to get proper food OP, I'm really sorry you are feeling so stressed about it.

dontdisturbmenow · 16/03/2020 09:39

Haha, not free but grrr!

Froq · 16/03/2020 10:06

Wow serious sarcasm fail.

MistyWytch · 16/03/2020 10:12

My Asda delivery guy told me the subs are done automatically by computer and the pickers can't override them. Stupid system. If you reject the subs at the door they'll be refunded the same day although the money might not appear in your bank right away. Still your best bet though.

I'm expecting a delivery today and am on pins tbh. I'm in a similar situation to you.
I feel for you.Flowers

Have you got any friends or family who can help you? What part of the country are you living in?

ShirleyPhallus · 16/03/2020 10:14

Where outs are you OP?

Yogawoogie · 16/03/2020 10:18

I now click no substitutes because they kept substituting GF for things that contain gluten. No use to us!

mumontherun14 · 16/03/2020 10:19

Whereabouts are you? Have you got some community groups nearby? We've had a Facebook one start up where local restaurants are doing free soup runs for those who are self isolating. Maybe something like that could help for next few days. Or call local Social work - I am sure they would help or signpost you to those who could. Sorry sending a hug its all such a rubbish situation xxxx

Wattagoose90 · 16/03/2020 10:20

I'd tweet them to highlight the situation they've put you in. A lot of companies have a strict social media policy which involves replying within a short timeframe.

I hope they find a way to sort this for you quickly.

Someone where we work has recently been diagnosed with the virus and we can't get out hands on enough baby food either. I've started batch cooking things we can freeze and Googling recipes for things that my 9 month old can eat. Lots of veggies, eggs, pasta (although we didn't have enough and can't get our hands on that either!)

Vinylsamso · 16/03/2020 10:22

Can you knock on a neighbour to help? I think people are being really friendly atm and I’m almost certain that one of most of your neighbours would gladly help you out.

If my neighbour knocked with this issue. I’d do the shopping and pay for it atm. Give them a try, there are some wonderful people out there c

Hi everyone sorry I didn't post again yesterday, it ended up being a very busy day.

My BIL came to the rescue! He leant next the money is spent on the shop, took my phone and listened to being on hold until they answered, then I spoke to Asda. It was the same guy but he just said he'd try his best to send an email to my bank Hmm

Then BIL took DS and I to the nearest Asda (40 minutes away) and I got almost everything I needed, bar loo roll, kitchen roll etc. Mostly my success was with the baby meals, so DS now has plenty (though not more than he needs!) and that's a huge relief that he can now eat properly as I'm an awful cook.

However, I did see a fight between a man and a woman over the last of the toilet roll which was horrifying. I panicked and turned tail to the other side of the shop but it shook me up a bit.

But we have food and m still waiting on a refund for now that I should hopefully get soon! The only neighbour I have that I know well is also disabled and cannot walk so I picked her up some bits too!
