To think I was right to send my child into school with a runny nose.

We’ve all been told most of the time a runny nose isn’t a symptom of covid-19. She hasn’t got a fever or a cough. There aren’t many cases in my area so I’ve sent her to school. The fresh air made her nose run more so by the time she got to school she was wiping her nose and I could sense people looking..

School are saying keep off when your child has a persistent cough and/or fever. Neither of which she has.

Now I’m doubting myself!

I encourage good hygiene with a runny nose. She has taken a pack of tissues.

You were right. A runny nose isn't a symptom.

cornishmama93 · 16/03/2020 09:15

I would have done the same.
Having said that I've kept my daughter off nursery today as she's got a cough and a runny nose but no fever but I thought they'd just send her home anyway if I sent her in 🤷🏻‍♀️🙄
All this second guessing is what I hate as she's pretty much fine in herself and will go crazy inside all day

Mine has hayfever and eczema on the scalp. School have just advised us of an outbreak of headlice. I imagine DC may not have a good day.Confused

I’d have sent in a child for just a runny nose.

formerbabe · 16/03/2020 09:15

I'd send her in

C33P0 · 16/03/2020 09:18

Sending her in would be consistent with current advice. However, logically it makes sense that she is more likely to pick up coronavirus as a result of touching her face more, e.g. to blow her nose.

I've sent one of mine in with a runny nose as no cough

x2boys · 16/03/2020 10:35

I sent ds2_ in with a cold ,he's a bit snotty but no high temperature , he did cough a bit yesterday but about three times in the whole day so I wouldn't class it as persistent!

Sweetbabycheezits · 16/03/2020 10:41

My DD has a cold that started over the weekend. School has told me that she has to self isolate for 7 days, even without a fever. I suppose that if she gave her cold to someone who is vulnerable, it might be risky for them...i don't know, but I guess I'd rather err on the side of caution.

MinnieMountain · 16/03/2020 10:44

DS went in for 4 days last week with a runny nose.

I've got to keep him off now as he started coughing yesterday.

YANBU, a runny nose is not a symptom nor is a chesty cough. People need to read up on the symptoms before jumping to conclusions about anyone who is sneezing or even coughing in the vicinity. Runny nose= the common cold or possibly even hay fever, it’s coming up to that time.

lanthanum · 16/03/2020 12:49

My runny nose is hayfever - I always start in March. And now I have a cough - but it's not dry and it feels hayfever-related.
