To go to the dentist with a sore throat.

Above says it all. Had a sore throat for over a week and on and off all winter to be honest. I’m sure it’s the dry air from having the heating on.

Definitely not covid-19. No cough or fever. Feel absolutely fine otherwise.

Would you still go to the dentist? Normally I would but in the current time I don’t want to panic anyone being there. My voice is a bit croaky but otherwise fine.

Aibu to go or just cancel?

I'd just cancel as it's not pleasant for the dentist.

SylvanianFrenemies · 16/03/2020 08:39

Routine treatment? Just cancel.

Takemebackto · 16/03/2020 08:39

I would say cancel.

Divebar · 16/03/2020 08:39

Why don’t you ask the dentist?

ShellsAndSunrises · 16/03/2020 08:39

I’d cancel.... it’s not pleasant for the dentist or the other people you could worry.

My app is ok Wednesday. I could be better by then but may cancel today as you have to give 2 days notice!

Just ask the practice. They will tell you

Ring and ask the receptionist.

ineedsun · 16/03/2020 09:37

Don't go. Read the thread on here about people who are self isolating who have symptoms. So many of them have sore throats as one of the symptoms.

20viona · 16/03/2020 09:40

No don't go

TheNoodlesIncident · 16/03/2020 09:43

Unless it's for emergency treatment I would cancel. It would be difficult, if not impossible, for the dentist to avoid being in your breathing zone and a sore throat could be indicative of a viral infection of some sort, even if not COVID-19 (which it still could be; some cases are asymptomatic or just one symptom).

You might be "better" in a couple of days but still be infectious.

If it was emergency treatment I'd ring the dentists and ask how they want to proceed, such as postponing for a few more days if possible.

Workingwoes · 16/03/2020 09:43

Just a check up then I'd cancel. If it's an emergency type of treatment that needs doing urgently then I'd go.

Spam88 · 16/03/2020 09:44

I'd have thought their usual cancellation policy wouldn't apply now (eg if you cane down with symptoms the day before the appointment).

Thanks all. I have cancelled. I’ve had a bad throat on and off for weeks and months. I am pretty sure it’s not contagious else I would spread it to my family but I thought it was best to cancel. It does seem a little worse this week but I’m far from I’ll 😊
