Wedding in cyprus

Due to get married in Cyprus early June. Flights are end of May with jet2 , they have currently cancelled all flights to cyprus , no one knows how long for.
Tried to call Jet2 but they only answering queries to people who are due to fly within next 7 days.
I know it’s 11 weeks away but I need to know for sure what’s happening.
The hotel I am due to get married at have advised to postpone but obviously there’s no suitable dates to postpone to for this year. So I was thinking to postpone to exactly a year later.
Hotel will gladly transfer my deposit over so I won’t loose any money there.
Just wondering if anyone knows jet2 policy or anyone this has happened to? I want to ask if I can change my flights to exactly a year later.

Flights and actual wedding are booked separately.
Do you think that because they have cancelled flights to Cyprus that they will honour the change? Or will they want me to wait and see.
I just can’t not know what’s happening about my own wedding until the last min and would rather wait another year until this is all completely over.
Plus have some vulnerable people attending. Who have only paid deposits and final valves due this week.
So I need to make a firm decision.

Any advice?

TIA

June is still a whack of a way away. There will be time to reorganise flights. People due to be flying in the next week need the most immediate help.
Hope you get it sorted.

Check the jet 2 policy on their website and your travel insurance. If I were you, given the state of aviation at the moment and that June 2021 is an awfully long time away, I would probably get a refund or money back from insurance if possible. You can then buy flights nearer the time when you know which airlines are still in business!

Thanks.. I do know people need immediate help right now which is why I’m asking for advice on here.

I just need to know what my plans are , I can’t wait till the last minute to know if my own wedding is going ahead or not. I’d rather postpone and know it will happen but just a year later than planned.

Jet2 don’t know yet; they won’t help for anything so far away. Your insurance won’t cover change of mind... you just have to wait it out. I do too, I’ve got 8 weeks to go. Nobody knows what the situation will look like in 2 weeks, let alone 11... you have no choice right now but to wait, and hope it gets better before the last minute. It’s really crap but all of us with imminent weddings are in the same boat.

I thought flights were only cancelled to Cyprus for the next few weeks? (My parent fly in April and their flights haven't been cancelled yet.) Maybe wait until it's cancelled to make a decision.

Some airlines are going to go bust through this. I'm not saying Jet2 will specifically, but I don't think they will really be able to guarantee you flights with them at the same time next year. On the other hand, chances are you are going to be able to find some flights to Cyprus in June 2021, whether with Jet2 or another operator.

Read up on the guarantees. Off the top of my head, ABTA covers packages, ie where you've bought hotel and flight together only.

One thing that strikes me about your posts is that there is no mention of what your fiance thinks.

Wowwe · 16/03/2020 06:19

Finance agrees with me and wants to postpone until 2021. We have 3 children and my dad has only just recovered from sepsis so WE wouldn’t want to be travelling in the middle of all this anyway.
Think I’m just gonna lose the flight money if worst comes to worst and rebook them for next year. As hotel will gladly move my booking until then.

Postpone wedding, let hotel know

Sit and wait with flights. Best case, they refund you closer to the time. Maybe they'll let you rearrange flights, maybe even for next year, or maybe you could use for a holiday. Worse case flights go ahead and you can decide whether to use them for a holiday or cancel and lose the money.

crispysausagerolls · 16/03/2020 07:53

I think safest to assume the next 4 months will be a write off, and to postpone

NotEverythingIsBlackandwhite · 16/03/2020 07:59

Do you have other guests who have already booked their flights too? Will you reimburse them?

I would postpone. I would sooner lose money than risk any of the wedding party contracting Coronavirus.

Booboostwo · 16/03/2020 08:04

Honestly? Rethink everything. This will not be over by next year. Even if a vaccine has become available the economic repercussions will be massive. I am really sorry, this is awful news for you.

ElloElloVera · 16/03/2020 08:08

@Wowwe I work in aviation. It’s utter chaos and panic right now. Most airlines systems only book 11 months in advance. Anything outside of that is an ODR (out of date range) and is merely held on paperwork until flights come into range.

If I were you I’d move the wedding. Focus on getting refund on the existing jet2 flights. then rebook when you know more after this has settled.
