Hello everyone. Im due to Sydney at end of March and return mid April staying with my friend and her family. Im going with my three year old son. We are due to fly from the UK to Dubai then to Sydney and booked the flights seven months ago.

Booked through Expedia flying Emirates to Dubai than Quantas to Sydney.

We today hear that the Australian government has decreed that Brits need to self isolate for two weeks from arrival or face a 1300 dollar fine if we are caught however our holiday is two weeks and we would need to fly home leaving my friend and her family to self isolate with us.

My son starts school in September so its always going to be harder to take him again without a price hike. Ive sent an email to Expedia asking for their help but had no answer. Its not the airline's issue as they are still to date flying and I could "technically still go".

I am insured but this is very clearly not covered on my insurance and some of my friends go anyway and don't self isolate. I have been reliably informed by my friend that people are very "hot" on these things and the police are randomly checking Brits on the street asking them to prove when they arrived.I haven't got 1300 dollars.

I've saved long and hard for this trip and have even asked to rechedule our flights with Expedia. Anyone any bright ideas?

I'm really sorry but I don't think you can - unless your flights are cancelled then refunded you are stuck - you have already said your insurance wont cover you.

you can only hope the advice changes to 'don't travel' to any of those countries - then you are insured

It is awful. But unless the government (either our country or theirs) specifically say you can't go then it's treated as advice and no refund.

Thats what im thinking too. Id just be thankful for a reschedule but thr reality that nobidy would travel across the worldnto self isolate for two weeks with a three year old then come home......ive also hired a car. Im truly heartbroken my son is upset as ive been promising that he will see all sorts of things. We've booked day trips and it was going to be thr holiday of a lifetime.

Don’t travel - Sydney is a hot spot - and I’m limiting going out to busy places because of it.

I’m surprised the PM has not closed Australia’s border like a lot of countries, band I certainly think lots if arrivals will not self isolate (and even if you do), who are you coming into contact with to get to your home/hotel etc?

If you are only booked for a two week holiday, how do you know they won’t turn you back at the boarder - because who would come for two weeks lockdown - and the rules will probably change again in the next few days.

I would not travel, especially with a young child. I’m surprised they are not letting you alter your booking - I’ve had emails from several resorts advising I can change my bookings up to 24 hours before arrival, even if you have bought the no changes rate, and I assume I will receive similar regarding my airfares.

I’m sorry you’ll miss your trip, but hopefully it can be rescheduled. And if you do come you better bring food and toilet paper as the shops are empty here.
