To make a doctors appointment

More a wwyd then aibu,
A few weeks ago I noticed a small lump under my left armpit, I didn't do anything about as it felt more like a fatty lump then anything and as I had put some weight on I thought it might be do to that. Then last night while having a bath I noticed a lump/bump in my right leg about half way down my thigh, you can see it only feel it as you run your hand
Now with everything happening atm my Dr's has literally gone into shutdown, my friend went there Friday and you aren't allowed to sit down while waiting and this was before any cases in my county (we now have 3 and they are 50 miles away from me) and they are trying to do phone appointments only
Should I insist that I want to see my Dr in an actual appointment, as how will he know what they are like unless he sees them
I get there are more important things going on and the NHS is under a lot of pressure but im pretty sure they aren't a normal thing for someone in their early 30s

Yes you should and I am sure they will take it seriously.

If they only offer phone appointments, take one. They can then make a face to face appointment if they think it sounds like something they want to examine.

Don't make the receptionist's life difficult. They will be stressed enough right now

You won’t need to insist. Just speak to them on the phone, they will triage and book you a face to face appointment

Redshoeblueshoe · 15/03/2020 19:17

Haven't your surgery texted you to let you know what they are doing ?
Mine have and they said a doctor or nurse will phone everyone with an appointment, to see if they need to come in.
I would hope in your situation they will see you

If you can only get a telephone appointment then take it. Describe your symptoms and if they need to see you face to face they can arrange it.

Zombiemum1946 · 15/03/2020 19:46

I would think they'll want to see you so they can examine the lumps. Corona virus or not, other stuff still needs to be dealt with. Flowers

Mumma12345 · 15/03/2020 19:59

Thanks I'm going to try ringing in the morning and see what they say
I haven't been to the Dr's for myself since dd3 6 week check up and she's now 7 so it's not like I go all the time
And to be honest when I felt the lump last night I bust into tears as I knew I shouldn't have ignored the 1st lump but always keep pushing it to the back of my mind

I work in a GP surgery - currently we are booking a telephone appointment initially, and then if the doctor thinks you need to be seen they will book an actual appointment with you. A lot of patients last week were emailing me pictures of rashes etc for the doctor to look at and decide a course of action. I’m sure you would be anyway, but please be nice to the admin staff - last week was utter hell with patients screaming at us that they wanted to be seen face to face. I know a telephone appointment first isn’t always what people want, but these are exceptional circumstances and we are just doing our best.
