To Ask neighbour to get their male cat "done"/spade?

Oldfail · 14/03/2020 18:11

Ever since we moved in a cat keeps coming into our house, through children's bedroom window and back door even when we had cats.

This cat is brazen as anything and has even sprayed in our house on several occasions. He has just come into our garden and we watched him spray some of our plant pots.

Aibu in asking/telling the neighbour that they need to get their cat spade?

For info neighbour is elderly, few doors down, has a son who is quite scary and openly smokes weed while walking his big dog.

If Aibu can you give me any suggestions to keep this cat out of the garden and my house!

What, like whack it with a spade? That's a bit much.

Hosepipe the little fecker first at least.

Unhomme · 14/03/2020 18:14

Yes because you cant spay a male cat.

Unhomme · 14/03/2020 18:15

But YABU to demand it. Hosepipe or water pistol...

Oldfail · 14/03/2020 18:16

Strong solution of Keyes fluid poured around your boundaries, under the window and door its using. Works for about 6 months.

Toxic to kids until its been down 24 hours though and you need no rain for 1st 24 hours.

AngelicInnocent · 14/03/2020 18:17

Jeyes fluid

Perch · 14/03/2020 18:17

Spay a female
Neuter a male
Yanbu

Lllot5 · 14/03/2020 18:17

Get a empty spray bottle. Wash it out obviously so there’s nothing toxic left in it, fill it with water and squirt him with it.

DramaAlpaca · 14/03/2020 18:17

Neutering him at this stage won't stop him spraying, I think they need to be done young before they get into the habit.

missmouse101 · 14/03/2020 18:18

Castrated or neutered. Spayed is for female cats. I think it's fine to have a polite word with its owner. The cat must also stink, and it is unacceptable to keep an entire male cat.

Ladylimpet · 14/03/2020 18:19

It's spay a female, castrate a male. You can neuter both..fyi.

tinybluerose · 14/03/2020 18:19

Shovel not spade for a male cat

crapette · 14/03/2020 18:49

it is unacceptable to keep an entire male cat.

Sorry, this has made me laugh....a lot.

HappyHammy · 14/03/2020 18:56

Is it a full wee or a wiggled bum spray. Cats still spray if they are neutered. Ask neighbour if he is neutered. Dont use jeyes. It is poison. Spray cat with water in a water pistol.

Veterinari · 14/03/2020 19:00

Castrate.

Have you actually checked he's not done already? It will be obvious.

Neutered cats will spray if anxious due to changes in their environment

forrestgreen · 14/03/2020 19:07

I'd put the windows on vent to stop it coming in.

Oldfail · 14/03/2020 19:16

To be honest he always runs off before I can see its bits. But the smell it leaves is horrible.

Unfortunately leaving windows on vent doesnt allow enough air in when it's very hot. This rooms are easy facing so get alot of sun.

I have fitted a blind so hoping that will be a deterrent.

Have tried the hose pipe and got a hit but doesnt stop the little s* coming back.

I love cats but dont want someone else's coming in, stinking out my house and leaving muddy footprints on window sills and walls

It could be a female or a castrated male

Cats spray to normalise the scent profile in their territory. If the cat thinks your house is in its territory then it will keep spraying
You have to keep him out

bemoreeverything · 14/03/2020 19:22

I'm creased at the image of the cat getting a good 'spading'

iwanttoshakesomeppl · 14/03/2020 19:25

Even after being neutered my next door neighbours cat still spays around my garden!

Sometimeswinning · 14/03/2020 19:26

There was a cat neutered by a neighbour/not owner in my town. Owner was outraged, everyone else was with the neighbour. £50 if it's worth it.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 14/03/2020 19:28

Disclaimer: I love cats , our house is owned by two of the little varmints .

You won't have much chance with a hosepipe , he'll be away before you've turned the tap. Big plastic jug of cold water . Keep it handy to throw .

Keep the windows and doors closed to stop him getting in.
Orange peel is a good, non-toxic deterrant .(put in borders where the cat goes)

When we got our two last year (young, one very nervous) I had to "reclaim" our garden from the wandering moggies that had taken over .

Water and a true aim .
