To visit Granny?

Supposed to visit DMIL this weekend. She is nearly 90 and in poor health. We’ve not seen her since Christmas and we are all looking forward to it.

However we all have a snotty DS and are worried about taking germs with us.

I would normally postpone but I worry that if we leave it longer it will become more risky to visit and If we leave it too long it might be too late.

None of us have much faith she can survive CV if she catches it.

Do we go now and risk passing something on?

Or should we wait and risk not seeing her again?

Because apparently when you reach a certain age you have to be treated like a small child @grannyshark. It’s so patronising.

Could you just send DH alone and get him to facetime you and the DCs while he is there? Cuts the risk but everyone still gets to chat and say hello?

I'd like to see my grandchildren try Grin

Me too!

Yes , ask her. If I was her I would want to risk it as it might not be plssible to visit at a later date but it is her choice, she sounds quite capable of telling you her preference. Just ask.

Nanny0gg · 13/03/2020 18:08

Can't your DH FaceTime you when he gets there?

Redshoeblueshoe · 13/03/2020 18:12

I agree with NannyOgg.
I'm a gran and I'm using it as an excuse not to babysit !

Brunelofbrio · 13/03/2020 18:13

Yes if course it is her decision. But she will be basing that decision on the info we give her re exactly how DS’s cold is (not helped that DS is also immune deficient...)

A lot of care homes are imposing visiting restrictions, one near me has banned all visitors. I personally wouldn't take him, why risk spreading what you see as a mild cold to those who are already at risk? Even if it's not covid19, a bout of pneumonia wouldn't be particularly pleasant for anyone.
