For one adult and a toddler (this includes toiletries, nappies, washing powder etc). I spend about £40-50 a week but unsure if this is high or not.

We spend around £70 in Aldi for two adults and a toddler. Will spend maybe another £20 throughout the week on other forgotten or overlooked bits and pieces

Pressed post too early.
Do you budget?
Make a list?
Feel £50 is too high?

InDubiousBattle · 13/03/2020 16:36

2 adults and 2 dc (4 and 6) and we spend £100ish a week . I think £40-50 is fine if you can afford it?

tealandteal · 13/03/2020 16:36

We spend £40 a week for 2 adults and a toddler (only nappies at night)

strawberrylipgloss · 13/03/2020 16:37

Depends on your weekly income after bills and where you shop.

2 adults and a toddler. We spend around £40-50 a week

Alwaysreadyforbed · 13/03/2020 16:54

Whatever you want. Don’t go by what Mumsnet says or you’ll be spending a tenner and even that’ll be too much

PlanDeRaccordement · 13/03/2020 16:59

2 adults and 2 teens that are bigger than the adults.
£130 per week. This includes cleaning supplies, & toiletries.

opticaldelusion · 13/03/2020 17:04

Doesn't seem high to me.

Lippy1234 · 13/03/2020 17:29

When 2 DC are back home during university holidays, £250 plus for DH, myself and 2 adult D.C. Around £160 when it’s just DH and I.

Isthistrueor · 13/03/2020 17:30

We probably spend £80-100 a week, two adults and four DC so I reckon £50 if it was just me and one toddler would be steep. Toddlers don’t really eat much.

TAKESNOSHITSHIRLEY · 15/03/2020 07:36

i spend that and more sometimes per day.

we go shopping daily for fresh stuff, most days twice as we need to stock up in the night time so my partner goes to the 24 hour one

we shop at aldis in the day and asdas at night as its a 24 one

there is 2 adults a 9 and 15 y old both very big boys,15 y old is 6ft 2 and 9 y old is 5ft 2

but our circumstances are very different than the normal household

1 we home educate so kids are home all day

2 they dont sleep, and i mean dont sleep not just go to sleep late i mean not at all

3 many different disabilities each mean they eat constantly in a 24 hour period and i mean constantly im talking 10+ large home cooked meals(so from scratch),constant snacks of fruit as well.say 1 tub or bag of fruit is enough for others for us its 1 each a few times a day,the 9 y old also goes through 8+ pints of milk per day

4 i have sever GERD and need lots and lots of whole milk per day.i go through roughly 5 4 pinters

tot it up and we are close to £300 per week

household supplies get bought as and when needed so i havent included that so add maybe 50 extra per month

we also spend a shit load per week on electric and gas as well but thats another thread i suppose

BarbaraofSeville · 15/03/2020 07:47

Don’t go by what Mumsnet says or you’ll be spending a tenner and even that’ll be too much

Or conversely you'll get the 'we spend £200 pw' and anyone who spends less must live on processed shite because good fresh food is expensive' crew.

It's probably around average for your household size, which is fine and probably means that there is scope to cut back if you need to (Jack Monroe is great for recipes to eat well on a small budget) or if you can afford more, it's fine to spend more too.

riotlady · 15/03/2020 08:37

We spend about £70-£80 a week for two adults and a toddler, including our fruit, veg and meat box from Riverford.

RuthW · 15/03/2020 08:50

Two adults - around £30-40 a week.

Sargass0 · 15/03/2020 09:09

Don't forget to include £300 for loo rolls
