To ask if anyone was in shock at finding out the sex of their baby?

Not in a gender disappointment way but in a we’ve spent the last four and a half months calling you it, and now you’re a he or she and we can give you a little name and not call you it anymore.

I think I’ve just had my “shit just got real” moment and I’m not sure what to do?

Please let me know I’m not an utter weirdo and it’s normal to feel this way!

I was shocked when I found out the sex because I was convinced I was having a boy and had convinced myself I wanted a boy but when they said a girl I felt a wave of almost euphoria, I couldn’t stop smiling.

The most shocking thing for me was being handed a newborn, for some reason I hadn’t actually thought about what my baby would look like and I was expecting some sort of cartoon baby or a dolly, so when they handed me a little wrinkled jaundiced thing I remember looking at her and just thinking well, I didn’t think you’d look like that.

My DTs were a huge shock.
I went for a scan around 16 weeks due to a previous health issue making Drs concerned. Was alone and got a bit panicky when the nurse went out and came back the the Dr.
Was literally speechless when they told me it was twins. Could say a word just stared at them gapping like a fish. They must have thought I was mad.

It was a friday and after the appointment I drove down to see my parents for the weekend. All through the drive I kept saying "its twins" "I'm having twins" etc
Got there and got out of the car and practically the first thing I said was "you're never going to believe this but its twins"
I was in such shock I'd not thought to tell exh. He didn't believe me until I got home with the scan picture.

Nah. I knew what she was as soon as I saw I was pregnant. The shock hit me when she actually arrived! A whole real little baby girl. Then I had a slight panic attack and fell asleep😁

I felt shocked. We had a gender scan with dd2 because dd1 was distraught and wanted to know. I had buried my head in the sand as I'd mc'd at 13 weeks previously. Definitely felt like shit got real.

We’d already had a girl when I got pregnant with my second child. I felt exactly the same way during pregnancy. My husband and I were utterly convinced that we were having another girl, despite all the ‘ you’re all hippy so you’re having a boy’ comments alongside the you’re all up front so your having a girl ‘ comments too. And vice versa.
We decided on a name for , what we thought, was our impending daughter.
When I finally pushed No2 out, my husband said” oh my god!” I screamed, “What’s wrong?” Thinking the worst, and he said, “ it’s a boy!”
Well you could have floored me! We had never expected a boy... so many aged soothsayers, midwives, friends , family and, indeed, we, thought we were having a girl!
This was back in the day before sex testing was commonplace.
I think younger parents might be missing out on the surprise element of having babies.
Just saying.

I was in denial throughout my 2nd pregnancy due to anxiety and depression. Definitely finding out at 20 weeks that she was a she made her a real person and dh and i were talking about her by her name which was nice and definitely helped make her feel like a real person and a real member of our family.

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 13/03/2020 22:22

I didn't find out on the scans. With both I had a bit of a vibe of what they were... I don't really believe that shit but honestly I felt I knew what I was having both times and i was right. DS was too, he told everyone he was sure the baby in my tummy was a girl and was not surprised at all by DD Grin

mdh2020 · 13/03/2020 22:27

We didn’t know till our second baby was born that he was a boy. We were so excited that the nursing staff thought we had set our hearts on a son. The real reason was that our 3 year old daughter was adamant that she only wanted a brother

bluebluezoo · 13/03/2020 22:32

Not really, there is only a choice of 2......if you are lucky

This. Now if I’d popped out a kitten that would have been a shock.

You know you’re getting a boy or a girl, so what’s shocking about it?

I didn’t find out. The birth was quite hairy and we didn’t actually find out for about 5 minutes after she arrived as the medical staff were too busy resuscitating to tell us those details. After that we didn’t really care about sex, just that she was safe.

NearlyGranny · 13/03/2020 22:42

But... But... It's 2020 and we're being told that babies are `born with no sex' and that doctors are arbitrarily 'assigning' sex to babies at birth. Seriously!
