House buying disappointment - tell me your tales of something better coming along

Just had our first offer on a house rejected, or rather they went for someome elses offer. Really bummed out as there's not an awful lot available where we are for our budget and this house was so perfect for us, they were chain free and we had a cash offer. Grrrr!

I'm 37 weeks pregnant, living with the inlaws and desperate to move asap so my 4 year old is settled for school by September. Tried not to get our hopes up but it seems I did anyway, I feel like a deflated balloon!

Can anyone share any tales of missing out on a home only to have something that worked out better come along in the end? I need cheering up and could do with some positive stories.

Took forever to sell ours, finally got an offer accepted and offered on a good compromise property. Got messed about by sellers (also heavily pregnant and timing of completion formed part of the offer). They then tried to force us up saying we’d been gazumped (suspect we weren’t). We went out that weekend and found a much better property. It wasn’t built so we had to wait but we ended up with a plan and we really like it here. Good luck!

We were 24 hours away from completion on our dream house in Melbourne (Derby, not Oz) and the sellers pulled out. It turns out they'd done it three times previously and I was gutted - had a tantrum and shouted that I wasn't moving anywhere, ever.

Three weeks later we'd been to a Christening and friends mentioned a little village called Kenilworth (just as the Melbourne house went back onto the market) we found a house there and fell madly in love with it. The garden is better, the location is better, we have a real Castle in our road and it is beautiful. If the Melbourne house hadn't fallen through we'd never have even looked at Kenilworth and found our gorgeous home despite me thinking my heart had broken at the time.

We put various offers on houses over the last few years and were either rejected or had our buyers pull out at various stages. Finally moved into the dream house 5 weeks ago - also heavily pregnant! We first viewed the house 18 months ago so it does feel like fate that we are finally living here.

Yes!
We were chain free. House 1 was chain free. However, chap was put under threat of redundancy.
We went out (pre rightmove) and looked at every possible house that Saturday.
Found a much better house for not much more, better estate, semi not end terraced etc. Interest rates went down that week so we ended up with the same mortgage payment for a better house.
It was the start of a change in luck (we had had a rotten few years).

Huuuuuge house came on just within our budget, at exactly the wrong time. A few days before the open day on our house. Despite the fact we had loads of bookings for the open day and were pretty much guaranteed to sell, we weren't proceedable and they took someone else's asking price offer. Naturally, a few days later, we'd sold and were ready to offer £10K, £20K over asking, but they didn't want to let down the people they'd already agreed to sell to.

The following week we found the house we're now in. Nicer village, better schools, better layout, better commute. I still have the occasional pang of "what could have been" just cos that place was so big and we've ended up somewhere much smaller - but put all the factors together, we definitely came out better for losing that one.

The first house I liked on Rightmove sold really quickly. Also the house next door to it sold soon after. Really liked the area but resigned myself that we hadn’t been ready when those houses were on the market.

We had lots of viewings of other houses and lost out at closing dates for a few houses, was really getting down about it when lo and behold the house next door to the one we originally liked came back on the market. Saw it that night and offered the next day. We moved here a few months ago and love it!

I even prefer it to next door now Grin

Yes! It was slightly different for us, in that our buyer pulled out (really dumb reason too), so although we tried to get another buyer quickly, understandably after a few weeks, the people we were buying from put their house back on the market and took another offer as they couldn't wait for us forever.

We were sooooo upset, thought we were losing our dream house and we were close to the end of the process so we had already started packing and mentally checked out of the old house.

It took some time to get a new buyer for our house but when we did we were so lucky - another house came up for sale on the same street as the "dream" house we previously lost out on. But the new one was bigger, with a bigger garden, a driveway, garage, and (best of all) a smaller price as the vendors were in a hurry to sell due to an overseas posting. SO jammy. Now we walk past the house we lost and sneer at their tiny garden and lack of driveway!

Yes been there got the T-shirt! Now living in my dream house - it’s all about timing. Keep the faith!

We put in an offer on our dream home, but didn’t yet have a buyer for our flat. Three days before we sold the flat, we found out the house had accepted another offer. I was so gutted; I was convinced it was ours. Really deflated.

A week later the estate agent called and asked us to offer again, which we did- it turned out that the buyers of the house had been still viewing other properties, which made the sellers nervous as they wanted to sell. They knew we were keen so called the agents and asked for us to offer- we got it for less than we originally offered, moved in on Friday, and I have woken up with a huge smile on my face every day!

Keep your fingers crossed OP- I find there’s a touch of destiny about house buying, it always works out in the end!

Had an offer accepted, they agreed to take it off the market but unbeknown to me were still allowing viewings. They then accepted an offer from someone else who could proceed a bit faster and dumped me.

I was upset obviously but found my current ( better!) house. I also found out later their sale fell through and they took another year to sell, at less than they'd have got from me.
