How do people recognise an OP's previous threads?

Not an AIBU, but this is the board where you see it most often.

Sometimes it's because the OP posts about a small incident in their relationship with someone else, often a DH/DP. The first posters say that she's being unfair and controlling, then someone comes on and says it might seem trivial, but in the context of the OP's other threads it's not, it's part of a bigger picture of abuse by the partner.

Other times the OP's scenario is completely outlandish, the first posters agree that the OP is not BU in the slightest, then someone says it's strange but the OP seems to have a lot of other threads where the situation equally stretches credibility.

How do you do it? Do you pay close attention to user names, or is it something else? it's very rare I can spot them.

Advanced search. And often there are posters whose threads are unforgettable...

WickedlyPetite · 10/03/2020 14:43

There's one particular poster that posts regularly about ridiculous unbelievable situations and I remember their name. I mean, one thread then yes, but nobody has that much drama with such a wide variety of people.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 10/03/2020 14:44

Either they have a good memory for the usernames, or they are advance searching.

Fanthorpe · 10/03/2020 14:47

Things just ring a bell sometimes, and a search confirms it. It’s quite sad when it’s a poster asking the same thing over and over in a different way.

LuckyLickitung · 10/03/2020 14:49

I often recognise fairly recent Zombies, such as the ressurection of the abandoned drink on soft play that came back one year on. The scenario sounds familiar. I'm not so hot on relationships, but sometimes usernames just catch my eye and stick with me for some reason. I CBA to advance search around though.

Shame I can't remember practical stuff like where my glasses are Grin

GinDrinker00 · 10/03/2020 14:50

Because people spend their entire life’s on here. Grin

livingmyslothlife · 10/03/2020 14:56

Some posters are just recognisable. There are several who name change frequently but due to their tone and views you can spot them a mile off.

DontBe · 10/03/2020 14:57

Sometimes the stories just sound familiar and you can piece things together.

There are some posters who ask the same advice over and over. Also, there’s advanced search.

Wonkybanana · 10/03/2020 15:10

I know there's advanced search, I've used it very occasionally myself where the OP sounds dodgy even to me - but most of the threads where it happens I haven't made the connection. Something must either ring bells or arouse suspicion to make you AS in the first place, where to me it doesn't seem obvious at all. So it always amazes me when someone else spots it.

Sometimes it's the way the write, their situation or occasionally I recognise a name. I'm never fussed enough to advance search though.

LolaSmiles · 10/03/2020 15:18

Sometimes it's when multiple threads are similar but each one is told in a slightly different way, with each subsequent thread being told in a way to get the responses the OP wants.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 10/03/2020 15:21

I'm more likely to remember the story or the way they write.
There was one a while ago who posted everything in short sentences with a gap inbetween every one.

So they would write a post.

Like this.

It was really annoying.

But made it obvious who they were.

Despite the name changes.

Firelink · 10/03/2020 16:24

Most of the threads are made up bollocks.

MouthBreathingRage · 10/03/2020 16:50

It's the style, tone, moaning about the same topic or repeating the same shit (sometimes literally). Once you notice them, it's difficult not to not see the same poster regardless of name change (or setting up a new account after getting banned). Even if they're not a troll, it's quite irritating seeing a poster get the same advice in 10 different threads just because they've name changed. Yiu cant mention that you recognize them either, as I found out with a very 'nice' email Hmm.

WalkingDeadTrainee · 10/03/2020 16:57

There are 2 I now safely recognise as soon as they post even about a different topic.
