@managedmis They've invented a thing called Annual Leave that can be taken.

EL8888 · 10/03/2020 13:10

@PhilCornwall1 Grin

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 10/03/2020 13:11

if it takes you 3 hours to reach work, you need to rethink your work place choices.

managedmis · 10/03/2020 13:19

I heard, Phil Grin

Thing is I only get 4 weeks per year

Annual leave - that's what it's there for!

idontlike789 · 10/03/2020 13:22

Is the appointment short notice ? Either way1/2 day annual leave .
I only get 4 weeks annual leave too and a few days a year are down to appointments etc so suck it up book annual leave and come in at lunch time .

TotesGodsWill · 10/03/2020 13:24

Annual leave

Don’t call in sick when you’re not sick, simple as that.

Mumdiva99 · 10/03/2020 13:28

Can you change one of the appointments so they are both on the same day?

JudyCoolibar · 10/03/2020 13:36

How long have you known about the appointment?

EarringsandLipstick · 10/03/2020 13:36

God OP this is infuriating!

If you need leave to take your DD to an appointment, you need to take annual leave (unless there's any other system of unpaid leave that applies in your work place. For me, it's annual leave).

I'm a single parent of 3 children. I have to take most of my leave to cover school events, sick children, appointments and so on. That's the way it works. It's tough at times, but they are my children, I work full-time, that's the deal.

I would never call in sick if I wasn't, or try to make up a ridiculous excuse for being late. If I needed time off like that, I'd book it in advance - even trying to decide what to do only the day before is ridiculous. Act like a decent employee and adult!

MaJoady · 10/03/2020 13:39

It doesn't matter if you "only get 4 weeks a year". This is what A/L is for, it's not just for jollies Hmm.

Alternatively, ask your boss if you can work an hour late three days this week to make it up, if your job is the sort of job that can facilitate this.

recklessruby · 10/03/2020 13:41

We have unpaid leave at our work for this. My friend used it to take her disabled mum to a hospital appointment. Dependant s leave or something?
I wouldn't call in sick as what if you really get sick and the boss gets pissed off with all the short term absences (Bradford scale)

PhilCornwall1 · 10/03/2020 14:05

Thing is I only get 4 weeks per year

So do I and so do many people, that's life.

ilovesooty · 10/03/2020 14:16

Of course you don't call in sick or make some spurious excuse for being late.
You take annual leave.

UrsulaPandress · 10/03/2020 14:18
MyDcAreMarvel · 10/03/2020 14:21

It’s emergency dependents leave everyone is entitled to it. It’s usually unpaid.

ilovesooty · 10/03/2020 14:23

It's only an emergency if it couldn't be foreseen.

Schuyler · 10/03/2020 20:53

YABU. Tell the truth.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/03/2020 20:56

No appointments for dependents are emergency depends leave if no annual leave left.

Moreisnnogedag · 10/03/2020 21:03

How late was the appt decided? It seems odd that it is tmrw and you haven’t made a plan before now
