To be fuming that my "next day by 1pm" parcel hasn't arrived so now DD1 can't have a 2 shaped cake.

I ordered one on monday, it was posted first class on tuesday, didn't arrive yesterday so I ordered another one on a next delivery service so it would be here this morning and IT'S STILL NOT HERE.

phone them and go mad

yanbu

stealthsquiggle · 07/09/2007 13:50

Oh NO - after all the planning - YANBU at all

Piggy · 07/09/2007 13:50

Get your dd to sob uncontrollably in the background whilst you're on the phone.

stealthsquiggle · 07/09/2007 13:50

Where did you order it from so that we can all boycott them?

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 13:51

I've tracked it online and it says it's on its way, but I need to start cooking soon, it has to cool down before I ice it this afternoon/evening.

Grrrrrrrr

Last time I had a "guaranteed" next-day-by-1pm delivery, it turned up at nearly 3pm - so there's still hope.

Ring them and check that they sent it - then keep your fingers crossed that it's just the delivery driver being delayed.

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 13:53

I ordered it from here but she's been very good about it - really helpful and it's not her fault at all, it's the blardy royal mail.

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 13:56

And to make matters worse, I really need a poo but don't dare go upstairs in case it arrives when I can't answer the door!

OP posts:
MamaG · 07/09/2007 14:04

lol!

I'd make the cake mix

pre heat the oven and then when it comes you can whizz it in

biglips · 07/09/2007 14:05

i'd be spitting mad by now!!

Def complain to the head office

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 14:09

Phew!

It's just arrived. Actually both of them have! And my nice postman was very apologetic about it.

Right, time to get cooking....

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 07/09/2007 14:09

you can make it without a tin

Just bake a cake in a very large rectangular tin (baking tray for eg).

Cut out a template in paper of a big 2

Put on cake and cut round with sharp knife

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 15:10

I know but I wanted to do it properly

It's in the oven now.

littleducks · 07/09/2007 15:18

so now you can make her cake when she is 22 as well!

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/09/2007 15:27

Sorry but....
HOW MUCH???????

Plus postage? Why is buying a shaped cake tin 'doing it properly'? There are some on mumsnet that would consider that cheating

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 15:46

I'm not telling you how much - I daren't!

Ok, so maybe not doing it properly, but I don't want to get it wrong and cut too much off or something similarly dim. At least I'm making a cake and decorating it myself and not buying one!

And I am going to return one for a full refund.

It will get reused too - DD2 can have one in 18 months time, then maybe they'll want 12s and 21s too?

OP posts:
ShrinkingViolet · 07/09/2007 15:52

you can use it for 5 as well by turnign it over/upsidesdown and/or the cake. My mum got loads of cakes for my brither and I out of a 2.

stealthsquiggle · 07/09/2007 15:59

I do think number-shaped tins make for cleaner lines than cutting cake (especially when you don't have the time left to freeze the cake first!) and the creativity comes in how you then decorate it, but personally I would always hire them from a cake shop - apart from anything else I don't have room to store (eventually) 10 large tins!

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 16:00

I tried that but it was out already

Flibbertyjibbet · 07/09/2007 17:57

The web link has the prices
I like to do baking too, am doing night garden for niece in a couple of weeks (just showing off as the childs mother thinks baking means sticking ready meal in oven not micro) and then a dinosaur volcano for ds1's 3rd in Dec.
Get the Australian Womens Weekly birthday cake book from Amazon )sorry no idea how to post links), it has great ideas and templates for numbers the whole book costs 1/3 one cake tin+postage!

MoosMa · 07/09/2007 19:32

D'oh! You caught me out
