To ask how to stop snot???

I've got a job interview tomorrow but woke up with a cold and have been sneezing, blocked up and sniffy today. Otherwise feel ok. If I move the interview I won't get another shot.

AIBU to ask how to temporarily stop the sniffing, sneezing etc without having to blow my nose every three seconds?

Take a decongestant?

Windyatthebeach · 09/03/2020 19:16

Lilet up each nostril?
Grin
Ice breaker imo!!

Decongestant, paracetamol and one of those Vicks nasal bullets you snort. All taken 20minutes before the interview

Butteredtoast55 · 09/03/2020 19:17

Beechams cold and flu capsules are ace. Get those and have a good nights sleep!

DesLynamsMoustache · 09/03/2020 19:17

Get some decongestant nasal spray (the good stuff with chemicals) and squirt it up there.

MitziK · 09/03/2020 19:26

Sudafed pseudoephedrine (decongestant).

Cold compresses to your sinuses, then at the first sign of movement - blow!

Make sure you take tissues with you, along with antibac gel, as nobody's going to appreciate you sneezing and then holding a hand out to shake.

Antihistamines can help dry things up too:

BambooWhoosh · 09/03/2020 19:29

Don't have any dairy until after the interview.

PeonyTruffle · 09/03/2020 19:33

Hayfever tablets dry things up!

turnthebiglightoff · 09/03/2020 19:38

Defo the Sudafed mentioned above; doctors hate it because it suppresses natural production of snot but for an interview it will work! I think it's pseudephdrine or something similar.

nanbread · 09/03/2020 19:51

Thanks - I've never taken anything like this before, are there side effects?

OK so after reading about pseudoephedrine I don't think I should take it. I already can get shaky and racing pulse when I'm nervous and they can be side effects. Don't want to risk that. Is there anything else?

The spray! It's localised and topical and works fast. Vicks or Sudafed.

DesLynamsMoustache · 09/03/2020 20:14

Just don't use it for more than three days or you might get rebound congestion. But it works wonders for a quick fix.

Bigfatspiders · 09/03/2020 20:19

Definitely Sudafed nasal spray. It shouldn’t give you too many side effects, I sometimes take it before bedtime when I have a really bad cold just so I can sleep.
