To keep my daughter off nursery this month?

Sounds a bit silly I know, but her chicken pox is spreading round her nursery like wildfire. We are due to go to Australia at the start of April, so if I keep her off she would get it and crust over before go. If keep her going to nursery then she may not catch it from this child but the next or the next one....

What you would you guys do?

Vaccinate?

MRex · 09/03/2020 14:22

Vaccinate

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:24

@Sweak Thought about it but can't afford to that until next week really? Could she not also be incubating the virus and then vaccinating would be pointless? Also, vaccinations take 4-8 weeks for both doses to be taken for immunity.

I had the same predicament last year OP- holiday booked for early June to Greece and in the month leading up her nursery was rife with it- in fact our whole area was, we couldn't get lotion anywhere.
Kept her in and the day we landed back home the first spot appeared (I did wonder if she was grumpy and not eating whilst away because she was unbeknown to us sick).
I guess i thought if she gets it and we cant fly my holiday insurance would cover us.

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:30

@OnlyFoolsnMothers yeah its stressful, sucky thing is although I can get the money back, I wouldn't be able to go again until after birthday, she will then be 2 so that means I'll have to pay for her seat and well, I couldn't afford it then 🙄

Having said that if this coronabollocks gets any worse my flight could get cancelled anyway!

You can afford to go to Australia but not to vaccinate? Hmm

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 09/03/2020 14:36

True re: Corona! However if the issue is you need to fly before she hits 2 then keep her home is probably the best way of having her not catch it.

mamasiz · 09/03/2020 14:38

@Sweak @HavelockVetinari you can’t vaccinate against chickenpox

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:40

@HavelockVetinari I paid for my flights to Australia 6 months ago, I've had a few large outgoings this month due to moving. Payday is next week, so no I cannot to afford to pay for a vaccination that may not work before next week. I do not usually live paycheck to paycheck.

You are assumptions are very unreasonable Hmm

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/03/2020 14:41

Yes you can mamasiz, you have to pay for as it’s not routine.

Can you afford to waste the money as most nursery schools will still need the bill paid for the missed sessions? If you’re happy to do that I wouldn’t blame you.

DaisyintheCloud · 09/03/2020 14:41

@mamasiz you most certainly can! It’s common practice in the US and can be paid for privately in the UK.

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:41

@mamasiz yes you can.

Eropsawlkasd23455 · 09/03/2020 14:41

@mamasiz yes you can , you just have to pay for it
You can get it at boots or Superdrug

User24689 · 09/03/2020 14:42

@mamasiz yes you can. Both my kids are vaccinated, as is standard in Australia (and many other countries)

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:43

@BernardsarenotalwaysSaints nursery fees are paid for this month already! I wouldn't have miss work either as I have a back up plan re childcare!

"You can afford to go to Australia but not to vaccinate?"

Totes! All about priorities. 😂

SpaceDinosaur · 09/03/2020 14:43

Now I feel a fool. I vaccinated my DD but I'm not going to Australia

StudentMummy19 · 09/03/2020 14:44

@SpaceDinosaur it's a real assumption that this is the case, known has any idea of my circumstances!

WinterCat · 09/03/2020 14:45

Keep her off. It saves you the stress and saves her the risk of having a nasty reaction to CP. I do advise to vaccinate her as soon as you can though.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 09/03/2020 14:45

Well as sods law dictates she’ll get it just as you’re about to fly I would.

SpaceDinosaur · 09/03/2020 14:46

I vaccinated because I believe that it is truly in the best interests for my child, years ago. Not because I had a holiday booked and wanted to save my holiday.

crispysausagerolls · 09/03/2020 14:50

This. I genuinely don’t understand someone not utilising all the vaccinations available.

@crispysausagerolls well there is no point in me vaccinating her when she's already been exposed.
