Please give me your hints and tips. Had a migraine since Tuesday - never had one before. I’m at a point I want to cut my own head off.
Please give me some solutions. Extra sleep, ibuprofen, paracetamol and water have not helped.

Ice cold full sugar Pepsi
A clothes peg pinching the skin between the first finger and thumb

AbsinthedelaBonchance · 08/03/2020 21:38

Cold coke, cold patch forehead (can substitute a sock rinsed in cold water), ice pack ( or cold can of drink) on neck, 2 paracetamol AND 2 ibuprofen - can add hot water bottle for feet. Eyes shut in dark room - but audio on - not music but audio book or Radio 4...

Two years of Botox were agonising but effective

Smarshian · 08/03/2020 21:44

THANK YOU everyone. I’ve tried a combination of dark room, cold cloth over eyes and aspirin with coke.
I’ve finally shaken it and feel more human.

Ring 111.

If you've tried all that and nothing has helped you need to be checked over. It might not be a migraine.

Justsaynonow · 08/03/2020 21:48

Ditto what many posters have said - sudden onset headache of this duration needs urgent followup.

I have chronic migraine and can't take triptans due to cardiac issues. Ibuprophen at onset, then opioids, ondansetron for nausea, cold packs on neck and head, cefaly tens machine. Botox every 12 weeks & low dose calcium channel blockers for prevention. I also use an essential oil roll on (peppermint oil) & peppermint oil in a diffuser to scent my room - Those + gingerale help with nausea.

VivienScott · 08/03/2020 21:57

I’ve packs across back of neck and/or forehead
White tiger balm across back of neck and forehead
Soft surgical neck collar sometimes helps with mine
TENS machine
Codeine
They’re awful, get well soon

I'm glad your headache has eased off but honestly think you should get checked out. Although a migraine can last a few days, it is unusual. I used to have them regularly and they tended to last a few hours, although I appreciate everyone is different.

I have experience in my family of a similar situation and it was much more serious than migraine, so don't just leave it now that the headache is feeling better.

dontgobaconmyheart · 09/03/2020 04:39

Is a long migraine really that unusual? Mine can often last 2 days at least, longer if you count the blurred vision and various other symptoms I get the day before such as slurring my words and forgetting the names of things. Have had many MRI's and mentioned it many times and the neurologist just says yep-migraines.

If I get in there early, painkillers and coke and a nap in the dark lying on a gel pad from the freezer does work, one also on the back of my neck. Triptans don't usually help, am on gabapentin also.

Will try some of the things I've not tried. Upsetting to see how many also suffer.

If you feel nausea, try phenergan (over the counter anti-histamine). As well as an anti-h, it is also anti nausea. My son swears by it, it allows him to eat something, then sleep (it makes you drowsy as well). When he wakes he is much better.

He usually takes ibubrofen or panadol with the phenergan.

Mine are sometimes multi day, and when adding in pre and postdrome days can be over a week. I hate the speech issues - my friends and family are very patient as I try and find words. Botox has helped but I have more symptomatic days in a month than not. It's not unusual for someone that's been diagnosed - I would only seek urgent medical if I had a big change in symptoms, otherwise it can wait till the next scheduled visit. Migraine.com is a good resource for new treatment/reliefs.

The concern with the OP is that she has a multiday severe headache for the first time - so no diagnosis of migraine. Other causes need to be ruled out.

MelAndShoe · 09/03/2020 06:30

It sounds like you havent been diagnosed with migraine. Please see a GP asap. There are many things that cause severe and long headaches. Please get checked out today. Even if it has improved.

Gobbycop · 09/03/2020 06:37

Go and see a chiropractor.

lyralalala · 09/03/2020 06:40

Please do get checked out. Any long headache like that should always be checked out the first time

Also if it's been a while then have your eyes tested.

SapatSea · 09/03/2020 08:56

Go see the GP. They can check out your eyes, balance etc and rule out some nasties. If the headache becomes a regular feature then really push to be seen by a neurologist or at least at a headache clinic. If migraine then keep a diary of food, what you have been up to and symptoms. You might see a pattern and work out some "triggers". You could try a migraine diet to see if that helaps the 6C's diet is the easiest, there is a good but much more restrictive one in "How to heal your headache"
www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00DUKY6NY/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21

You could also try adding magnesium and/or Vitamin b2 and Coenzyme Q10 supplements daily to held lower your "migraine load".

There are lots of preventative meds to try and abortives. If triptans don't work enough on their own as an abortive you can add in other drugs such as Naproxen (you can buy otc as Feminax ultra).

MelAndShoe · 10/03/2020 23:39

@Smarshian how are you
