To worry about booking hotels in the states?

We have flights booked for a two week holiday in May in USA. So far have not booked accommodation. It’s getting a bit last minute now but I’m worried USA will ban travellers from Europe due to the virus. DH thinks I’m being daft but I really don’t fancy losing thousands of pounds if we end up not being able to go.

We’re flying with United Airlines and they’re already stopping flights to and from Italy.

Am I being daft and worrying over nothing?

I don't think you are worrying over nothing but I would still book and male sure you book rooms that have late cancellation options (usually more) and that you have good insurance.

I fly out to the USA next week and would be lying if I said I wasn’t a little anxious, but I’m immunocompromised.

Flights to and from Italy have much less demand currently which is one of the main reasons flights are being cancelled/reduced.

May is bloody ages away! I travelled from Canada into the USA last week and booked 3 nights in a hotel about an hour before we arrived in the city, if you’re unsure it won’t hurt to wait a little, or pay the slightly higher rates that allow cancellation?

er, USA has a lot of virus already. And their tourist industry is desperate.

I was going to say that my dad travels in USA rarely booking hotels in advance. He just turns up at places, and always seems to find somewhere decent enough when & where he turns up.

Who'da thought having a shit tier health system would lead to national health issues??

MummaGiles · 07/03/2020 09:25

As PPs have said, I would just look for options with free cancellation. Booking.com is generally good for that.

Well if you have travel insurance you'll be covered

Largeyellowdaffodil · 07/03/2020 09:53

If you can’t go because a do not fly is imposed by the uk or the USA the travel insurance will cover it.
