What has been the most embarrassing moment/event in your life so far?

In my early 20s I got a secretarial job at a very stuffy solicitor's office where all the secretaries sat outside their own boss's office facing each but nobody spoke, no good morning, nothing, I hated it there and within days decided to leave.

When they'd all gone home I typed a round robin type letter to send to other companies enquiring if they had any vacancies, snuck into the photocopier room and made 20 copies. Took the copies home without realising I'd left the original in the photocopier which was found next morning. Was called into the boss's office and sacked instantly as I'd mentioned my current salary in the letter and the secretary that found it told all the others, several of whom were on lower salaries and were livid.

I was mortified, it was definitely one of those 'I'll get my coat' moments!

In my most recent embarrassing moment, we had a fundraising bingo night at work. I got what I thought was a full house and so I called. Other players chucked away their slips, but then a check revealed I hadn't after all, a number was still missing. Gah. Bad enough once but in the next round, I did the exact same stupid thing again. I still have no idea what was wrong with me or my eyes that evening and why I kept missing numbers, but it made my colleagues hate me and I am never playing bingo ever again.

Another time I went to school with my top on inside out and didn't realise until almost lunchtime, when someone else pointed it out.

I must have had much worse moments but I have locked them in a mental cubby hole never to reopen.

Ringing a hairdressers to inquire the cost of a blowjob.

Realised my error that I hadn’t said blow dry as intended.. when there was a deep silence on the other end of the phone followed by sniggering...

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 08/03/2020 15:16

@HermioneMakepeace I love that!

Notredamn · 08/03/2020 15:17

Aufder I asked a classmate if she realised her jumper was inside out one breaktime and she paused then said, 'yes. I'm making a fashion statement' but I never saw her wear it like that again Grin

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 08/03/2020 15:26

Thankfully decades ago, but the time I was wearing white trousers for work, and realised right after I’d been talking to 2 male colleagues, that I’d very obviously started my period. They absolutely must have noticed but were too polite/embarrassed to say anything.

Thank God I lived a short drive away. Zoomed home, covering the evidence as best I could with whatever it was (no coat, it was a hot climate) changed into another pair of white trousers, zoomed back, carried on with as much aplomb as I could muster.

The two men had evidently said not a word to anyone else, since I never heard a whisper about it afterwards.

When I was pregnant with my daughter I had an aggressive craving for pickled onion monster munch could I fuck find them anywhere. My now Ex Partner drove me to the nearest Tesco express in the hopes I could get my hands on the holy grail of crisps!! And guess what... I found an abundance of them. So I grabbed two Massive share bags of the tasty little shits and ran to my Partner jiggling my massive pregnant bulbous belly and shaking two packets of crisps in his face only to find out it was a complete stranger. Who has now just witnessed a pregnant crazy woman at her wits end Run up to him from one side of the isle and wave monster munch crisps in his face whilst dry humping thin air.

Using the toilet at a hotel in Tunisia which had a kind of hose type thing attached to the wall, presumably to clean the toilet with after use. Standing up I knocked it with my arm and it proceeded, hosepipe like to flail around uncontrollably spraying cold water all over the floor, walls, ceiling and me.
By the time I eventually got control, water had seeped out under the door and was slowly flooding everywhere. Dripping wet, I had tried to pat myself down with toilet roll which then stuck in clumps to my face and chest.
I opened the door to find a bemused queue of all nationalities paddling in water.

Very recently got BOTH heels caught in a grate on a tram track in the wind and rain (at peak time). Pulled the first foot out of the shoe, tried to lift my other foot up and pulled up the entire grate. Friends just stood laughing at me until one kindly rushed over to help. Blush

@Notredamn Dammit, I wish I had been that quick thinking! Grin

I went for an interview for a job I really wanted, I mean this was career-defining stuff.

The interview was going very well when they asked me a very sensible question along the lines of "in terms of networking, have you made any close working relationships in the industry?".

I then confidently replied "actually I have spent a lot of time working with........." and the person who I had been working with's name was gone. I mean really gone. Like never to be retrieved again. Panic set in. I had two options. Admit I had forgot someone's name I saw regularly and basically confess to being stupid, flaky and unreliable. OR say the name of someone else in the (small) industry I had only met once or twice and hope I could get away with it.

You guessed it. I said "I've spent a lot of time working with Eileen Barker (not her real name)".

My interviewer replies "unbelievable, what a small world that's my sister!".

I did not get the job. And still die a little inside whenever I think of this.
The only bright side is that as an employer and regular interviewer myself I have SO MUCH sympathy for interviewing candidates. Stress can play silly games to your mind!

Another one - I studied German in college though I wasn't great at it. I ended up at some function in the German embassy. The ambassador's wife politely was making conversation with a group of us (not a college function). I was able to follow and smiled and nodded and said a few words in German. She then smiled and said something to me in German. I said "excuse me?" in German. She repeated it. I looked blankly at her and in English she said "I was just wondering how your German is so good/how you understand German so well". Aaaaarrrrrrgggghhh the embarrassment Blush

Heel ho, the wind and the rain...

(Wrong thread I realise.)

Year 10 at at school, walking to sit in assembly in a packed auditorium. Bag got caught on a chair leg and ended up "swimming" through the chairs and landed flat on my face. Not fun!

willdoitinaminute · 08/03/2020 20:14

At a rather hedonistic student conference I received a standing ovation at breakfast on the last day from most of the male delegates. Lesson learned .... always lock the bathroom door. Even after 30+ years I blush thinking about it. Unfortunately it would be far too outing, in certain circles, to divulge what I was doing🤐

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 08/03/2020 20:49

@Greyeye are you my DH? Grin

Pricklypear12 · 08/03/2020 23:38

I was in a Tesco's changing room, just as I undressed to my birthday suit... a little boy climbed in under the gap on the door!

We gazed at one another in stunned silence for a moment until I just blurted out "I think you want the next one love!" Grin

Boyfriend and I were still in the early months of seeing each other.
Things had been going from strength to strength and I was finally invited for to meet his Mum and Sister for the very first time.
His Mum was going to make us a nice dinner at their house where they both lived.

The day before we were having one of our frequent spontaneous hot and steamy have to strip and have you right here and now kind of sex sessions on my living room sofa. As you do.

Cue next evening, I meet them both and nervously sit down to dinner with them. Barely even into first bite of our starter, his Sister eagerly says to us both, Eh are you aware you butt dialled our home phone and left a several minutes long message on the answering machine?!

My eyes widened, cheeks reddened as I started remembering all the noises and dirty talk!! Pretty full on stuff lol, I nearly choked on my food!

I didn't know where to look or what to say for the remainder of the visit. His sister thought it was hilarious and I couldn't look her or more importantly his Mother in eye again for quite some time. Blush

God I have too many...car decided it wouldn’t change gears anymore after pulling away from a roundabout in 1st. Lidl car park was next turning and 7:30ish so empty. Parked up, lifted the bonnet and gave it a long stare (I know nothing of cars so not sure what I was looking for). Luckily had my phone in my hand as door lock was twitchy and locked me and my coat out. So I’m standing in the car park ringing the recovery/breakdown people and it starts raining, a lot, and I have a thin white blouse on (do people realise how thin/see through these become). Shop opening time occurs so lots of people turn up....All was well in the end, I moved and have never gone back 😂

As a teenager fairly new both to snogging and actually snogging for the first time a boy I had really liked for ages.
He was 6'4 and I was only 5'3 so it was a bit awkward.
He was stooping down over to kiss me and even though I was fully on my tip toes, I was having to tilt my head back so far it was practically sitting on the top of my back!
The kiss was going on and on and on,
and I started to feel a bit funny and dizzy, I hadn't ever felt like that before so just ignored it and carried on. Darkness suddenly closed in.

Next thing I knew I woke up from fainting to being carried in a fireman's lift over his shoulders and I instantly projectiled all over his back and legs! He had been trying to carry me to our friends nearby. He put me down quickly and I sat on the ground being sick again and looked up at him and apologised, his eyes met mine and he just looked appalled at me. Lol needless to say he didn't hang about and after that night he never wanted to see me or kiss me again!! Haha

BensonStabler · 09/03/2020 04:35

I remember one of my Mum's moments.

Back in the early nineties my Mum and her partner had been working at a stall they ran at markets at car boot sale type things. It was outdoors and luckily nice weather.

After packing up at the end of the day she couldn't find her long coat, me and my siblings helped her look everywhere while she had been waiting on him coming back from the toilets. He arrived to us frantically trying to find it.

Having described it again he realised she had not lost it at all, and that he had actually sold it! They sold clothes so he thought that was one of their items.

She was suddenly red faced and mortified. He thought she was mad and said it's ok I will buy you another one. She went from initial shock horror face, to then pissing herself laughing struggling to explain no its not that,
it's just it dawned on her that she had left her vibrator in the inside pocket!! Blush

I only know from years later when she told me as an adult and that she had took it out of her bag because we were always in it for one thing or another as kids. She says she wanted the ground to swallow her up!

Greyeye · 09/03/2020 09:44

Once - 😆

SeaGale · 09/03/2020 15:24

Benson - she kept her vibrator in her handbag? And thought transferring it to her coat pocket would be safer/a good idea?!

I was going on a date with someone I never met. I was sweating so much while getting ready so I neatly folded some toilet roll into my armpits hanging out my top while I waited to be picked up. I was trying on my coat and I got a call saying he was outside so I just left the house-forgetting to take the toilet roll out.
Sat there the whole date with it hanging out. He keep high fiving me and I thought it was so weird, obviously he was trying to see what the hell it was

Mortifying
