To go to a concert alone ?

In August Tom Jones (he is my guilty pleasure ) is playing Edinburgh summer sessions.
Obviously in Edinburgh and I live in Newcastle.
Nobody wants to come with me.
I really want to go
Shall I go ?
Book a hotel and come back the next morning.
It's outside and standing so I'm thinking I can just mingle in the crowd.
Or am I looser ?

I’m going all the way to My Chemical Romance at the Eden Project alone and I can’t wait :)

notacooldad · 09/03/2020 07:10

Why in earth not.
IVe been going to concerts, theatres etc alone since I was 14.( not always alone of course, just when no one fancies going)
Why should I miss out?
I dont see what is scary about it. You are watching something you want to watch.

@CrazylazyJane, Ahhh, not the same. I’m seeing an Irish band in Bristol!

Mia1415 · 09/03/2020 13:28

I've been to loads of concerts on my own. You should definitely go. I really miss my pre-DS days when I could do this.

Trunkysaurus · 09/03/2020 13:33

It looks like plenty of people have gone by themselves, so it's not unusual.

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 09/03/2020 13:37

I've booked a ticket to Lets Rock in Dalkeith and I'm going on my own. Great line up of 80s people, including Adam Ant and Nik Kershaw, if anyone is interested in that kind of thing!

Do it!

Shannith · 09/03/2020 13:54

I did it late last year - and came on here to ask if I was sad.

I was also told to go for it - so glad I did. It was seated and quite a small venue but it was brilliant.

I also took the opportunity to dress up a bit rock chick. Why the fuck not!

My neighbour who gave me a lift to the station and normally sees me in riding/dog walking gear did a massive double take Grin

Loved it and will do it again. I'm also too old to have many fucks to give but still had a wobble.

Go! Report back.

CarolinaPink · 09/03/2020 14:36

Yes, of course, go! Why on earth not? Book a nice place, have a nice meal and indulge your guilty pleasure :)

CarolHasAnotherUTI · 09/03/2020 14:40

@Trunkysaurus well played

gabsdot45 · 09/03/2020 14:40

Do it.
I saw Hugh Jackman by myself last year. It was amazing, Plus you have the treat of night away by yourself too.
Do it!!!!

Edinburgh hotels will be crazy expensive all through August as the festival is on - which should make it an even better trip as there'll be loads going on during the day.

I wouldn't focus too much on staying dead centre - it's not a massive city and a 30 minute walk in any direction from Princes St will get you to most places - £10-£15 on a taxi from the centre would cover most of the city.

Loads of nice apartments on AirBnB etc. that might not have uprated their prices yet.

Boom boom!

motheroftwoboys · 09/03/2020 15:44

As a 60 something II often go to concerts alone and travel to them if necessary. Always meet interesting people.

CliffStitorus · 09/03/2020 15:50

Do it, I've been to loads of gigs big and small on my own. No worrying about losing the people you are with, can nip off to the toilet when you want, not hanging around waiting for people etc. It's great.

Thedrowners30 · 09/03/2020 15:52

Of course it doesn’t make you a loser!
I’ve been to loads of concerts on my own. It wouldn’t even occur to me to miss an artist I love just because none of my friends are into them.

Go and enjoy. It’s liberatingSmile

Lsquiggles · 09/03/2020 15:56

I went to a concert last month with my sister and dp to see my favourite band and whilst we had a lovely time, the thought did cross my mind that I would've enjoyed it just as much if I'd gone alone and could've focused entirely on the performance as some of the songs are deeply personal to me Blush

amusedbush · 09/03/2020 15:58

DH goes to concerts alone. In fact, the fucker saw Metallica without me last time they were in Glasgow because I was working and couldn’t get the time off AngryEnvy
