I’m talking black tie and a ball gown.
It’s for my partners 40th so I thought it would be nice if we could take a trip somewhere and get all dressed up.
I considered the opera in Vienna etc but I’m getting conflicting information if that’s a jeans affair?
I’ve also looked at murder mystery weekends but can’t find anything particularly formal.
We both like an excuse to get dressed up and I thought it would be a nice surprise.
Birthday is Mid may but a few weeks either side would be fine. Has anyone any suggestions, please? Grin

if your anywhere near Yorkshire our Yorkshire cat rescue is having a charity ball at the end of march you don't need to book a full table and our theme this year is roaring twenties I have gone all out and am dressing in the full glitz and fringed dress and headgear

See, I'm not above rocking up to my local pub in a ballgown 😂😂

Burgh island hotel is lovely

Glyndebourne is great, it’s part of the event that everyone gets dressed up and brings their own “competitive picknicking” game (think actual dining chairs, real cut glass, beef wellington etc - although we hired a table as didn’t have a car) so it’s a really fun day out. Book early though because, as with most opera, the most expensive tickets are extremely expensive.

Another vote for Glyndebourne

@Breeoncrackersforlunch not popular as such! Just involved in something that involves a load of places hosting balls and it being courtesy to attend each others.

Everyone dresses mega for the first, by the middle of summer it’s airy full length summer dresses and flip flops (mostly cause it’s roasting!) and then by the last two everyone is back to full glam.

Off topic, but brought a smile to my face
In the years before we had kids, we'd book last minute deals and go.
One was to Jersey, Hotel was fab, decided to eat out so went into the town and waltzed straight into a pizza shop, both wearing jeans, jumpers etc etc. Sat down, then noticed everyone else was dressed to the nines.., cocktail dresses, suits, wine/champagne glasses...eating pizza with full dinner service, whilst we expected tear & share!

It wasn't really us, later in the week found a proper café, full English with big mugs of tea and toast..brilliant.

I saw this recently in Hampshire ringwoodhallhotel.com/events/special-events/spring-ball-black-tie-dinner/

I'm sure you could google 'hotel black tie night' to see if there's a date and location that would suit you

I’ve always wanted to go to a fancy black tie event
