Rude cleaner

Ok so possibly very petty but it’s really starting to irritate me! We have a cleaner at work who cleans our floor of the building every day. During the day I (and a lot of other people) have to walk between offices multiple times a day which often is when she is mopping the corridors between the offices.
Last week she saw me turn the corner and actually said ‘for fucks sake’ because I was walking down the corridor. This week as I asked to squeeze past her in the corridor she actually threw her mop down in a strop and huffed at me so I asked where else I was meant to walk and she just replied ‘as long as I don’t slip’. She wont not let you use the bathroom if she’s in there etc - work in healthcare so it’s often trying to nip to the loo when possible. When I mentioned I really don’t like her swearing or scowling at me daily, people have just said she might hate her job etc like that’s an acceptable reason to be rude to other people in the building? Am I BU for not accepting that as an excuse to be rude daily?

I don't think you're being unreasonable. She might hate her job and be having a bad day, that doesn't give you a free pass to be abusive to those who are also working around you.

(I speak as someone who understands the pain of someone walking over your freshly washed floors. . .)

Are you brave enough to stop and speak to her properly? I think I would have a serious word with her the next time she is rude/swears etc. I certainly wouldn’t let her stop me using the loo (or she’d have a delightful mess to clean up!)

Not sure as she’s very unapproachable - I always used to try say morning on my way in and got a scowl every time. I think I will they say something next time... just not sure what as it feels so unpleasant? She’s known in the office for being rude but I’m not sure why it’s so accepted.

Nobody should have to put up with abuse in the workplace. I would speak to your manager. It sounds as if they need to re-think when they have the cleaning done as well, offices are normally before or after office hours.
