AIBU to think I am too much of a snowflake to watch the film Parasite

I avoid all 18 rated films but now 15 seems to be the new 18! Dd (21) wants to see the film but I don't want to come away traumatised. I'm really not very good with violence on screen - has anyone seen it and is it really that bad anyway?

I didn't think it was particularly violent. It has its moments but I certainly wouldnt describe it as a violent film. Its also awesome.

NurseButtercup · 05/03/2020 17:24

It's a brilliant film...
Best to watch without knowing details

It's fine. I'm a wimp but actually enjoyed it. Thought provoking.
There's one scary bit that I was warned about as my friends know how much of a wimp I am.ive seen much more traumatising films

LaurieFairyCake · 05/03/2020 17:31

Do any animals get hurt in it? (Can't watch that)

QueenOfPain · 05/03/2020 17:34

There’s really not that much violence, and it’s not violence for the sake of it as with some 18 films. It’s all in keeping with the storyline.

It’s worth seeing.

QueenOfPain · 05/03/2020 17:34

No animals hurt.

SinkGirl · 05/03/2020 17:35

No, there’s no animal violence.

There is violence but it’s not (IMO) traumatic - for the most part you can see it coming and avert your eyes if you can’t stand violence. I can’t watch horror films at all for example, but had no issues watching this.

Are you comfortable watching sex scenes with your daughter? There’s only one but that’s probably what caused the most discomfort in the screening I saw which was mainly older people and a few single men. It’s not pornographic or anything, but it wasn’t fleeting either!

megletthesecond · 05/03/2020 17:35

I want to see it too, but I'm also a wimp. Even my mum is going to see it.

I have found a website called does the dog die that allows you to filter out certain criteria.

CheshireGirl38 · 05/03/2020 17:43

So it sounds like I can just shut my eyes for the scary bit then. I was all up for going, then looked at the bbfc website and it said "strong bloody violence" which got me all worried

The80sweregreat · 05/03/2020 17:52

It was a bit violent at times and there was a sex scene ( but no nudity) but you knew when it was going to happen and I just shut my eyes! It was a brilliant film and the cinema was full! Best film I've seen in years.

ichifanny · 05/03/2020 17:53

A bit of violence but it’s not sadistic or gratuitous

Iooselipssinkships · 05/03/2020 18:15

Absolutely brilliant film. Watched it the other night and loved it. I did assume it was gonna be a zombie type film as I didn't know the synopsis but I was pleasantly surprised.
It's VERY tense in some parts, I broke my partners fingers. Not scary like horror film scary though. The violence is minimal.

Burgerandchipvan · 05/03/2020 19:08

There's a couple of bits of violence - all slightly absurd. It's not like Saw.

I thought it was fantastic.

BeardedMum · 05/03/2020 19:12

I am the biggest wimp and I loved it.
It is violent and I did look away a few times but honestly loved it so much!!

Panicmode1 · 05/03/2020 19:12

I went with my father - so the most excruciating bit was the sex scene - which as others have said isn't graphic but it was somewhat uncomfortable watching with my father just next to me!

I'm a total wimp about violence but it's such a brilliant film, and you can anticipate the violence coming so I just averted my eyes.

Honestly, go and see it - it's one of the most original films I've seen for a very long time.

FieldOfFlameAndHeather · 05/03/2020 19:13

There is violence in the last five minutes, that’s all. It’s done in a faintly comic but gruesome Kill Bill kind of way. I agree with the person upthread who said it’s not sadistic or gratuitous.

It’s an amazing film that is funny, sad, poignant and dark all at once. Totally, totally worth seeing even if you watch the last few minutes through your gaps in your fingers. The cinematography is superb.

viques · 05/03/2020 19:23

The violence is nothing compared to the incoming sewage........
