To get mad with the person who keeps blocking our back gate with their car!

For the last week we have been unable to get out of our back gate without squeezing past the bloody car. This morning the car was gone by the time I got back from school and as its bin day tomorrow, I thought I would put the bin out as the gate was not blocked. As I was going out to school again this afternoon not only was the gate blocked but my wheelie bin had been moved from the place that the council have told us to put it. I'm getting a bit grrr about it now! Would you put a note on the window or just grin and bear it?

I would kick it hard

aloha · 06/09/2007 17:47

Er, do you have a dropped kerb? Is it parked legally on the road?

AufishFeQueen · 06/09/2007 17:49

Its a dropped kerb but when we parked our car there we got told to move it by the council.

Leave a really nice note on the windscreen asking them not to park there again!

SleeplessInTheStaceym11House · 06/09/2007 22:27

id leave a note saying that next time they do it youll have them towed, should do a treat!

sweetcherrypie · 06/09/2007 22:33

Buy a sign to say 'keep gates clear' or something plus put a note on car saying not to park there. Bit rude moving your bins imo.

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2007 22:36

Now level with us here. You've not been able to get out of your gate without squeezing past the bloody car? Does this entail sucking tummies in and cortion type movements, or do you simply walk past it to get out?

handlemecarefully · 06/09/2007 22:36

Yes moving bins is somewhat cheeky!

BandofMothers · 06/09/2007 22:47

Leave a nice note, then if they ignore it accidentally scratch it when you're squeezing the pushchair past it.

sweetcherrypie · 06/09/2007 22:52

At the back of dp's shop he gets people parking in such a way that it makes it difficult to get past and there are lots of deliverys that go through that entrance etc. The cars soon learn when they have no wing mirror left or if their car is covered in flour dust that they should not park so he can't use his entrance properly!

sorry just have to rofl about the typo in capitals!

shergar · 07/09/2007 11:22

Ring the council and get the number for the poor parking unit (they should all have one, though it may not be called exactly that!). If it's anything like the one where I used to live they'll be round within the hour to put a parking ticket on it.

kekouan · 07/09/2007 11:27

Our neighbour keeps blocking my car - we have a shared drived and she keeps parking hers really far over, meaning that when I get home I really have to squeeze my car in and have little space to get out (which at nearly 7 month pg isn't fun )

Trouble is, I can't bring myself to bring it up with her because she's so lovely... argh.

but no, YANBU.. can you scrape your bins past his car? Sure he'd soon learn

AufishFeQueen · 08/09/2007 17:16

I literally have to squeeze past the car and I am a small person!

handlemecarefully · 08/09/2007 20:42

So did you decide to go for it with the note?

AufishFeQueen · 10/09/2007 11:34

Have put a note on the car, which has been screwed up and thrown on the road and the car is still being parked right up to the gate.

OP posts:
evenhope · 10/09/2007 11:36

In that case I would ring the council. Presumably if they've said you can't park there no-one else can either?

Do you know whose the car is? or rather where they live in relation to where they've parked?

choccybuttons · 10/09/2007 11:44

Do you have a car yourself? Maybe you could park it there for a couple of days? Then this person would have to park elsewhere?

TheMuppetMuggle · 10/09/2007 11:45

Do you know who's car it is??
As they have screwed the note up, call the council and get them to ticket the car.

sazzybee · 10/09/2007 11:51

If you ring the council they will tow it. Or they should if they're blocking access.

What did you write on the note? Did you threaten to do that or were you polite?

Tortington · 10/09/2007 12:01

i'd be of the accidentally dropping a milk bottle in parking space response

AufishFeQueen · 10/09/2007 20:12

Sorry about the delay getting back to this, I wrote on the note politely for the person to stop parking their car in front of my gate as they were blocking my right of way. We have also parked our car there in the past but have been told by the council to remove it otherwise they would remove it. I have no idea where the person lives as the car appears there only at night time and am unable to see who it belongs to and when they go in the morning, I have usually left for school.
