AIBU to not chuck it all in the rubbish?

I had a clear out of old papers, payslips, bank statements - all that stuff.

It’s now bagged up and I’m no sure what to do with it.

DH wants to let the bin men take it away. I’m slightly worried about sensitive papers and ID theft. But is that a reasonable worry? It’s just going into landfill, right?

So, AIBU - yes it’ll be fine; what’s the worst that can happen?
YANBU - someone will be empty your bank account before you can blink

Get one of these

Flick through the papers and quickly ink out any identifying info - quick than shredding

Once you've caught up it's easy to do it to every statement etc before you file it

Shred it, or burn in the garden. Don’t put it in the bin whole, people search through bins for this sort of stuff

We shred ours and give it to the local (community) riding stables. They ask for people to do this so they save money on bedding for the horses.

Thanks very much - I’ll check and see how much it’ll cost to get someone to shred it. If not, hot water it is Smile

if you soak the paper and form it into a decent brick, press it and let it dry, it makes a reasonable log for a wood burning stove. Even better if you can mix some sawdust in.

Bucket or washing up bowl of warm soapy water, soak for 20 mins, wring out, in the bin. Job done.
