To think 11.30pm is not the time for milkmen to deliver?

My milkman has been moving his delivery earlier and earlier. When I first signed up it was 4am but it's been before midnight the last two weeks and tonight 11.30pm for tomorrow's milk. AIBU to think this is ridiculous?

Thanks for the replies everybody, it seems really split.

@Pyong not really, I pay for a service that isn't now the same I signed up to, i don't think it's unfair of me to take my business elsewhere. I find the change to the time misleading and I can't see why it's changed 5 hours in such a short time. If I had been informed, the gate closed when he left etc, then I would probably feel better about it and just go buy a milkminder as suggested on here.

I was awake last night but stuck in bed with a poorly cosleeper who wakes and cries if I leave him, so my milk has only just come in, he did close the gate though last night, bonus! And to the person that said I can bring it in when going to close the gate, obviously I'm not stupid and do that when I can get down, but there's nothing like having to put a crying baby down to go out in the freezing cold, wind and rain we've had recently to close a gate that should be shut, to put you off your milkman.

I called the company and they said deliveries are between midnight and 7 but were absolutely useless. We went with the bigger company because it seemed to have a better set up but I will be cancelling and using somebody else.

Is it mcqueens?

We very rarely see a milk float nowadays but a couple of years ago a random float was seen outside our house. OH went out to ask if he buy a bottle of milk as we'd run out. He was told 'Sorry mate - I haven't got any spare'. You'd think they'd have spare milk wouldn't you - what if they break some on the way round. But OP, it's a shame as you obviously want to support a dying breed, but if they are not 'delivering' to your needs then I agree, you need to make changes.

dottiedodah · 04/03/2020 07:37

I think this is not acceptable TBH! It sounds like hes trying to get his deliviries out late at night to be able to get to bed by midnight or 1/2 am ! We had a milkman years ago, and he was often unreliable and almost every week there was some sort of discrepancy or other .We cancelled him in the end .Its a shame ,but milk is much cheaper in supermarkets and you can buy it and take it home knowing its fresh !

Mine delivers the night before at the moment, except during the snow, or when ice is forecast. This suggests to me that they’re pretty switched on and will deliver in the mornings once it gets warmer. Maybe yours will do the same?

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 04/03/2020 07:38

Hedhogdrama, they usually have a few spare at the start of the round, but we used to try and order as close to the exact amount needed as possible. No-body wants old milk, so having leftovers each day just eats into profit. And we hardly ever dropped any!

HedghogDrama · 04/03/2020 07:41

That's fair enough - it just made us laugh at the time :) Just out of interest - do they deliver cartons or glass bottles now?

UnexpectedItemInTheShaggingAre · 04/03/2020 07:54

@hedghogDrama
Ours do both!

Sorry to divert the thread.....but where do people buy their milk minders or caddies from please I haven't been able to find one, thanksSmile

Melfish · 05/03/2020 00:40

Milk and More sell the milk minders on their website, but you might need an account to buy one.
I use a small square pedal bin (bathroom type bin) which I leave in the porch for the milk bottles.

AlunWynsKnee · 05/03/2020 00:54

Daz Milk varies his time. Scared me to bits when I heard scuffing outside the door at midnight when he did an early delivery. He usually comes round about 6am as dd waves to him.
It's probably corona fears and people signing up for milk deliveries while they are avoiding supermarkets.

Hannah888 · 05/03/2020 01:09

I would be less worried about the condition of the milk. We started a delivery which came at 2.30 am not by electric, almost silent milk carrier but by a very noisy heavy lorry, the engine of which was stopped and started at every house or so. Impossible to sleep through and it soon ended. We all needed our sleep more.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 05/03/2020 01:24

Hannah888 electric milk floats used to have relatively short range so were only suitable for covering high customer density areas. When I delivered milk back in the 80s we had a milk lorry because of this. I wonder with t improvements in electric engines if you get a Tesla style milk float?
