Are all microwaves crap?

I've bought two microwaves in three years. The first one was awful and went horrifically wrong. The replacement Morphy Richards one is just terrible.

Either heats things up 1000% or does nothing at all, depending upon its mood.

Does anyone have a microwave recommendation? They all cost so much. I only use it for peas and warming up toddler milk but don't want to waste money on another crap one which is unreliable and unpredictable.

Milk is always too hot or too cold. It's not the end of the world but it's really annoying me!

I used mine for the same things as you. Our microwave broke down a year ago. Now I cook peas in a pan and heat milk in a fancy milk frothing machine, which takes up a lot less space in the kitchen. Don't miss a microwave at all.

I don't drink coffee but is there a fancy milk frothing heaty uppy contraption I could use instead?!

I used to buy the almost-cheapest-possible - £30ish, just a power dial and a timer dial and nothing else. they were terrible and never lasted long.

when we got our fitted kitchen we spent hundreds of pounds on an integrated AEG microwave and it has been brilliant. none of the problems I used to think were just normal for microwaves.

you may not be spending enough.

Or you may not be operating it correctly?

I have a Panasonic that is still going strong after 13 years.

God, our microwave won't die. I want a fancy new one that doesn't spin but need the old one to kick it.

@monsteracheeseplant I think microwaves just know what you want of them and do the opposite. My old nice compact and faithful one died after about 5 years. Was about to buy a new one but hubby’s dad had a fitted kitchen installed and offered his old monster ugly thing which hubby accepted. Two years on I’m waiting for it’s demise but it’s going strongly still. I’m now considering sabotage!

My dad bought me a microwave when I first moved in with dh 13 years ago almost. It's still going strong. Is a Panasonic one same a duvetaddict I think it was about £80.
