Mitchum deodorant sticks: terrible packaging

The Mitchum solid stick deodorant works for me but the plastic delivery system weighs more than the deodorant it contains and when you get to the end there's still a week's-worth of useful product that you can't apply to your underarms because of the way it's designed. You can scoop the unused deodorant out using a finger or some kind of implement, but it's not so easy to apply and I've ended up with crumbs of it on the carpet and floor.

AIBU to want to scream at Mitchum for selling such a useful product in such woefully bad and ecologically damaging packaging?

Are there products that work just as well in more earth-friendly packaging? I don't get on with liquid roll-on deodorants: they never seem to dry properly on me unless I'm prepared to use a hairdryer or hold my arms up for at least 10 minutes.

I agree! Mitchum is the only one I’ve ever had that works. I’ve lost count of the times I’ve scratched my underarms trying to get another use out of it Blush

I love Lush solid deodorants.

Jammydodger, yay, so it's not just me scraping away at my underarms and wondering who the hell thought that packaging was a good idea...

Totally agree. It’s also so difficult to get that plastic cap off the deodorant the first time you use it.

Curiosity101 · 03/03/2020 13:23

@Francina670 If you turn the deodorant up a bit before removing the cap it's much easier.

I've tried loads of different antiperspirants and deodorants and none of them keep me completely dry and fresh all day apart from the crystal stone ones (like pitrok). It's a deodorant, so it doesn't stop me sweating but there is no odour at all, even if I skip a shower one day, I don't have smelly armpits. I rub it on wet armpits after my shower. The one I use does have some plastic packaging but each one lasts several years, so not quite as bad as a product you are replacing every few weeks.

LindaSmithfanclub · 03/03/2020 13:32

I've tried those crystal things but I'm not interested in having wet armpits so unfortunately they're not viable for me.

I use the sure solid antiperspirant and have found exactly the same issues as you all - and the dove one too and every other one I've tried. But I like solid antiperspirant.

I hate it when you are trying to get the last few uses so you wind it up a little too far and it flicks over when you are using it, jumps out the container and smashes on the floor!

LemsipLemsipLemsip · 03/03/2020 13:38

I’m frequently annoyed by this issue (and the waste of a large amount of deodorant). I’ve gone back to using bar soap and have been smooshing the old one to the new piece.
It made me wonder if I could do something similar with my deodorant and after a quick google at the weekend (having scratched my armpit for the umpteenth time) discovered that many other people feel similar!

From a crafting point of view I’m tempted to give it a go, but in the long run, asking Mitchum to address the issue makes more sense.

SnapAndFartAllDayLong · 03/03/2020 13:42

Yes I have this issue too!!!! Also had a few break on me half full as the twisty thing wouldn't work Angry

Gone back to using persepex, it's the only other thing that will keep my bone dry

feesh · 03/03/2020 13:48

I agree, and sometimes (especially if you’ve dropped one) the stick cracks and breaks upon use! I use the Sure and Dove cream ones now instead.

wink1970 · 03/03/2020 13:53

@SnapAndFartAllDayLong what's Persepex?

I think Mitchum has finally given up on me, the last 2-3 months I have still perspired more than a little (mind you, am peri).
