To feel transformed after a single retreat? Does anyone know any I can go to in England

I feel so happy after a truly special weekend. I spent two nights, Friday - Sunday away from my husband who I am very over attached to and our two sons who are a baby and a three year old.

I have never left my eldest for more then one night and I've never left the baby. I was surrounded by truly special people who just made my mind explode. I hadn't used my brain like I did this weekend, for years.

I don't think it's a fad. I do think it is healthy to do these things. Maybe 2 times a year.
But where else can I go?

Aibu to do this twice a year?

Yanbu at all but what kind of retreat?

Last time I went away, ages ago, was a quiet part of Wales. Walks with babbling brooks in the valleys. Lovely. Proper country dark at night time. I’m a Londoner so that was marvellous!

But who were these special people? Was it a writing retreat?

Either way - of course you can go!

Iris27 · 02/03/2020 21:56

Please tell me what this was!

You should definitely do this- for you and your family

So I went on a retreat which had a few parts to it. Someone I followed on Instagram organised a retreat. The retreat had:

  • a lecture from a man who is a sort of motivational speaker but it wasn't about making money it was about our fears
  • a lecture on values and satisfaction so how to have a life which incorporates our key values
  • yoga sessions which there were 2 of, one on each of the mornings
  • a Wim Hoff breathing session plus also we were going to go in a cold pool but didn't as it was windy so we had cold showers

-cooking together some lovely food which was vegan

  • a breathing session which we did as a sort of meditation
  • journaling

-walking or running in the morning

We did have down time and free time

It wasn't a writing retreat but I just feel so inspired

The retreat was run by Love to Learn to

I want to go back and do it all again but I don't know any others who do one

I think leaving the children was really good for me. My son who's three is such hard work and I feel like my life is so underwhelming these days. I feel energised by the experience but I don't know if it's unreasonable to go and do that twice a year? Is that selfish or is that a good idea so I feel clearer for my children?

Perfectly fine to go twice a year. It’s only twice a year!

cultkid · 03/03/2020 07:46

I don't know of any more
I want to find some

Sounds amazing and something I'm looking into doing too. Life is getting too hard for me at the moment, with a pre teen, so I think this would help get some perspective. Just need the time and to give myself permission to actually do it.

cultkid · 03/03/2020 07:54

@479SweetPea

Do it. I have been so much more patient the last two nights with the kids and more relaxed in the morning
I even laughed with my husband in the kitchen at 7 am

We usually bicker early because I am stressed about the day ahead

Sounds wonderful OP. Alistair Appleton used to run some. I would love to go on one of his but worry I'd fangirl too much. Smile

Hi OP, I just googled "wellness retreat uk" and loads came up.

Glad you had a great weekend, yanbu to go on 2 retreats a year.

cultkid · 03/03/2020 09:39

@Strugglingtodomybest that's why I couldn't find any! I was googling the wrong thing
Thanks for that I will take a look

No problem!

Shaminon · 03/03/2020 14:49

I've really struggled to find retreats in the UK that would inspire me and reset me - op, could you link? The problem with googling wellness retreat is so many spa hotels come up - I'd really welcome any recommendations!

MoggTheCat · 03/03/2020 15:48

Raw Horizons in Yorkshire are very good

479SweetPea · 03/03/2020 15:50

I’ve been recommended this one - www.fieldofhealing.co.uk/

Going on some organised retreat with lectures and enforced yoga would be my absolute idea of hell.

However I go away by myself a few times a year just to an air bnb somewhere quiet and go running/cycling/walking/sleeping/reading and find it so peaceful and relaxing.

RobinHumphries · 03/03/2020 16:02

Gaia house Devon

cultkid · 03/03/2020 16:21

@Shaminon they don't have a website yet! Let me see how I can get you some info on them
They are on Instagram
Lovetolearnto

We had a lecture from one of the founders of the do lectures ... amazing

None of the activities were enforced it was all optional
There was wine at night too 😁

Whether you want a retreat, or just some time away alone, getting that relaxation is something we should all aim for.

cultkid · 03/03/2020 16:45

Here's the link sorry it just hasn't been optimised lovetolearnto.com/ yet
