Is this normal? Selling a pair of boots on local selling site. Lady messaged me to ask if she can come and try them on tomorrow afternoon?
AIBU- to say no? - she can ask as many questions as she wants ,- have as many photos she wants - but to go to a person's house just to try on,??

Why wouldn't she be able to try them on? You don't have to let her in your house. Meet somewhere public if you're uncomfortable. Definitely not unreasonable to want to try on shoes before you buy.

Ftumch · 01/03/2020 21:28

Is she not going to come and collect them if she wants to buy them anyway? It's weird not to let her try them on!

DDiva · 01/03/2020 21:29

When I bought a pair of boots on facebook I tried them first altho I fully intended buying them....

UnexpectedItemInTheShaggingAre · 01/03/2020 21:30

YABU.
She’s not going to want to give you her money for something she’s not sure she will ever be able to use or wear is she ?

Woodlandwalks · 01/03/2020 21:31

Lots of people have funny sized feet and conventional sizes only sometimes fit so I don't think it's unreasonable to ask to try them on before she commits. But as long as you don't mind potentially losing a sale, it's also okay for you to say no if you don't want to allow that.

raspberryk · 01/03/2020 21:32

Yabu, I'd never buy a pair of shoes without trying them on!

MiniMum97 · 01/03/2020 21:36

I really don't understand why you are being so weird about it? It's normal practice to try shoes before buying.

recrudescence · 01/03/2020 21:42

If you really don’t want to let her try them on then I think you should agree to a return and refund if they don’t fit once she gets them home.

xyzandabc · 01/03/2020 21:42

Yes it's normal. Would you buy a pair of boots without trying them on?

As long as they fit, she will buy them, so it's just the same as if she was coming to collect and pay but may take 2-3 minutes longer. But why would she want them if they don't fit?

I've tried a few things on in people's houses, shoes, ski jackets, posh frocks etc. And got my kids to try on trainers if they're with me. Higher priced things. If it was a top for a couple of quid I wouldn't bother.

Likewise I've had people try on stuff at my house, just in the hallway for shoes or even on the doorstep. Whatever suits at the time.

If they've asked to try them on, it would be very strange to say no.

Jobseeker19 · 01/03/2020 21:43

I would find it a big waste of time.

WeeNippy · 01/03/2020 21:52

Not normal, I would find if weird if someone asked to try something on, shoes or otherwise, you're not a shop. Selling sites are buy as seen, sizes are stated in the ad. Who's got time to meet several people wanting to try something you're selling for a tenner Confused.

WorraLiberty · 01/03/2020 21:56

It sounds fairly normal to me

Hence why shoe shops have benches

itsabitofamess · 01/03/2020 21:57

It's normal. But you can say no and hang onto them until someone that is willing to buy them without trying them turns up. Not a big deal.

ByeMF · 01/03/2020 21:59

I've sold shoes on marketplace and always offered people the chance to try them on. It wouldn't cross my mind not to.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 01/03/2020 22:02

It's not normal to try shoes on before buying them in this situation. When I buy shoes from ebay I don't wait until I try them on before I pay for them. You are not running a shop, OP.

Elbbob · 01/03/2020 22:06

I tried to sell some trainers on FB once and went to meet someone with them. She tried them on but they were too big because she 'hadn't realised what size they were'. I had been extremely clear and even included the size label in the photos!
So I'd confirm stuff like that with her first.

CrotchetyQuaver · 01/03/2020 22:10

If they fit, I would assume she'll buy them? I can't see the issue myself. If you don't like it, perhaps you'd be better selling them on eBay.

Instatwat · 01/03/2020 22:11

Don’t know why that tickled me so much, but it did Grin Can’t fault the logic.

Yeah I’d always try on shoes before buying too, even second hand ones. Definitely not weird.

Woeismethischristmas · 01/03/2020 22:13

I bought a pair of ski boots after I tried them on at someone's house. Even second hand they weren't cheap so I wouldn't of chanced it.

rattusrattus20 · 01/03/2020 22:19

as already said, if we're talking about a couple of quid, SIBU, if tens of pounds, YABU.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 01/03/2020 22:21

You wouldn’t think it odd in a shop - why is it odd in your house?

TheBigFatMermaid · 01/03/2020 22:26

You're weird. Of course she wants to try them on.

RhitaGawr · 01/03/2020 22:30

Nothing wrong with that at all.
