Would you buy each child a present?

DD has been invited to a birthday party. On the invite it states that the party is a joint party for her friends birthday and also her little brother who’s not school age yet.

Despite not knowing her little brother and assuming he’s invited pre school age children too whom he will receive gifts from do I need to buy both of them a present or just the little who in Dd’s class?

I don’t mind buying two but not sure it’s necessary?

Interested to know what others would think..

I'd only get a present for your daughter's friend.

NailsNeedDoing · 01/03/2020 18:34

I think you only need to buy one present.

Bearfrills · 01/03/2020 18:36

I'd only buy one present but seeing as they're siblings I'd maybe get something they can share if they want to like Playdoh or a craft set. I'd send a birthday card for both though.

legalseagull · 01/03/2020 18:36

Just whack both their names on whatever present you buy. Play dough is a good shout

DameOfGroans · 01/03/2020 18:38

I'd probably buy her a proper gift and him a token.

NoveltyFunsy · 01/03/2020 18:39

buy the girl who invited a gift, you don't need to buy for anyone else

OhCaptain · 01/03/2020 18:40

I’d get her a gift and him something small as a token. A book or a cheapo Dino toy or something.

SleepingStandingUp · 01/03/2020 18:41

Depends on their ages surely.

I'd get her a proper present, and I'd get him something little, pound shop does lite playgough sets, books etc.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 01/03/2020 18:42

Just for your daughters friend

reluctantbrit · 01/03/2020 18:43

Please no joined present, that’s unfair to both of them.

We normally give the person from whose the invite is a proper present and a token for the other child.

Itwasntme1 · 01/03/2020 18:44

Normal, age appropriate present for birthday girl. Token wrapped for little brother (colouring book etc).

mumtomaxwell · 01/03/2020 18:46

I know it’s a bit different but as a parent of twins please don’t do a joint present!!!

If you don’t know the little brother then just get one for the child who invites you.

Leeds2 · 01/03/2020 18:46

I would buy a "token present" if the other child was in your DD's class. But, given he is a younger sibling, I would just buy for DD's friend.

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2020 18:48

Just a present for your actual friend

Adviceplease1234 · 01/03/2020 18:50

I would buy for both but probably spend less on the brother

Itwasntme1 · 01/03/2020 18:50

I remember joint presents - they suck

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 01/03/2020 18:51

Aww - I'd get the little one something - just something token and fun.

Starbuck8419 · 01/03/2020 18:52

My daughter had a similar situation last year. Invited to a nursery friends birthday and it turned out to be a joint one with her friend (that we didn’t know.)
It was one present for the friend and that’s it.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 01/03/2020 18:52

I’d avoid a joint gift, it’s not really a gift if you don’t own it and have to share it.

I’d only buy for the child you know. The younger ones friends will do gifts for him surely.

Boom45 · 01/03/2020 18:53

Just a present for the child you actually know.

DowntonCrabby · 01/03/2020 18:54

I’d get him a token gift for a couple of £.

xTinkerhellx · 01/03/2020 18:56

My child's friend does a joint party every year. Every year I buy presents for both kids, every year the mum tells me it isn't necessary, but I feel bad otherwise!

As a side note, aren't all gifts for school friends 'token' gifts? I never spend more than £5 on a school friends gift.

OhCaptain · 01/03/2020 18:59

I spend €15 on school friends. €20 if they’re very close friends!

Sceptre86 · 01/03/2020 19:03

I would buy for your daughter's friend and if you can afford to get a little something for her brother. Argos has some great toys on clearance, I recently got by son a remote control car for £6. Otherwise both Smyths and the entertainer have toys for under £10

IceColdCat · 01/03/2020 19:05

I'd get a present for her and a little something for him.
