To ask what this rash is on my 5 month old baby

Apologies for posting, and I’m asking for advice before/while I call 111.
My 5 month old DD has this rash on her back and tummy.

DH was giving her a bath and found it...it wasn’t there when I have her a sink wash earlier this afternoon on ac of a poonami.

She has no temp, has been drinking milk and is to all intents and purposes her usual self, not overly fretful. She has had all her 8-12-16 vaccinations.

Any advice much appreciated. Thank you.

I would ring 111 to be on the safe side to be honest, don't risk it with these things.

aw1212 · 29/02/2020 19:48

Sorry just read your OP properly, glad that you are ringing 111 and getting baby sorted. Good luck. xx

Looks like a heat rash to me, have you done the glass test ?

DesLynamsMoustache · 29/02/2020 19:50

Looks like a fairly standard viral rash to me, my DD has had them a few times. They tend to look worse after being in a bath or shower too IME. Hope 111 are helpful!

JustDanceAddict · 29/02/2020 19:50

Does it blanch?
I would say it looks viral or allergic but def seek medical advice.

coffeeandpyjamas · 29/02/2020 19:52

Glad you’re ringing 111, best thing to do & they may want someone to see her just to be safe. Does it fade under a glass? It may be some kind of heat/histamine rash? Did you use different soap after her poonami earlier? I know she’s 5mo but has she eaten anything, or if you’re BFing have you eaten anything? Or has she been on antibiotics for anything?

My son had a similar rash when he had an allergic reaction to penicillin. Hope 111 respond quickly OP

Both my younger two came out in something similar at similar sorts of ages. With one of them we think it may have been parvovirus (so-called slapped cheek) - she developed the red cheeks too, but not until later on. I wouldn't worry unduly (obv keep a close eye) if it fades under a glass (it really doesn't look like petechiae but the glass test will help reassure you).

opticaldelusion · 29/02/2020 19:55

It looks similar to German measles (rubella). Could be anything really. Medical advice required especially for a child that young.

TheTrollFairy · 29/02/2020 19:56

Looks like a heat rash to me! Especially as it was noticed at bath time.
Dd used to get them all the time

AquaFaba · 29/02/2020 20:09

Thank you for the feedback; very much appreciated

I was wondering about rubella as well. Hopefully just a viral rash but I’d want it checked out.

aintnothinbutagstring · 29/02/2020 20:35

Could be heat rash, but that would subside quickly. My DD had a similar rash with scarlet fever, but she was also very ill with temp by the time the rash appeared. Could be viral rash but good to check with a doctor.

Jematron · 29/02/2020 20:53

Have you done a glass test?

Exact same rash as my friends baby recently, she went to her GP turned out to be viral. Sorry I don't no much more about what the infection was but he was sent home with no medicine required. He didn't have any other symptoms. They found it at night and seen someone the next day.
But best to get these things checked, children's a&e will be absolutely hell on a weekend, take snacks for you and somewhere for baby to try to sleep or carrier, if your going there.
Good luck x

MaryShelley1818 · 29/02/2020 20:58

Definitely good to get proper medical advice but looks like a standard Viral rash or heat rash. DS got one frequently every few weeks from about 4-10mths, he was an exceptionally rashy child. After a while we just checked it blanched and didn't bat an eyelid although the first few times was terrifying.

PixieDustt · 29/02/2020 21:06

My DS had a rash a bit like this it wasn't as much though and got told to go straight to a&e so they can check it over. Once I got to a&e they said whenever it's a rash just go straight over rather than phone 111 as they'd rather see babies. His was viral and went by the next day. Because of the location of my DS's rash it was hard to put a glass to it but the nurse said if you use two fingers and stretch the skin to see if the rash fades.
Hope your LO gets it checked over and all is good x

georgialondon · 29/02/2020 21:08

Looks like a viral rash

nobodyimportant · 29/02/2020 21:18

I'd say viral rash, heat rash tends to be more localised IME. Is she poorly? Got a temperature? If you're worried is there a walk-in/urgent care centre that you can take her to?

Massivetree · 29/02/2020 21:25

My 15 month old just had rash exactly like this. Doc said it was viral. It disappeared after a few days. She’d had a temp the day before. But because of your LO age definitely call 111

Beldon · 29/02/2020 22:06

Weirdly my son had same looking rash 2 days ago, also 5mths, it was more down sides of his face and on chest. It wasn’t bothering him at all. We just kept an eye on it and it disappeared by the evening. Presuming it might have been heat rash. I’d be more concerned if it was on larger area of body so like you id ring 111. Hope you get sorted with answers soon.

PicsInRed · 29/02/2020 22:07

Roseola?

gingerbiscuits · 29/02/2020 23:34

Best to get it checked, just in case. However, it very much reminds me of when our son was about 6mths & developed a similar rash at bathtime - after faffing about with a glass for ages & not being 100% if it was fading, we rushed to A&E and spent ages waiting, only to be told it was indeed a heat rash!! I was still glad we went though.

Megan2018 · 29/02/2020 23:38

My 5.5 month old has had this, on less of her body but it came with very high temp. It followed a cold a week before. We were sent go Children’s A&E, they said viral.

I’d get it checked out to be safe-were were on and out within 3hrs once temp stable.
