To need to rant about noisy neighbours

Nc for this just in case

They’ve been this bad since I first moved in. Had slight improvement for a few months but last few days back to same nonsense. Neighbours above me.

Thump thump thump thump!

NOT ordinary walking, not remotely, but stomping away in heavy shoes/boots on hardwood/laminate floors, child also stomping/running and jumping and yelling...

Since before 8am this morning!

Before anyone well meaning suggests:

I can’t move

I’ve already been through the whole rigmarole of complaining to council, housing association, councillors, Mp... no help at all!

Last time I complained officially I got threats and harassment and police had to tell them to back off!

Argh!!!

They’ve been not too bad for almost a year then last couple of nights and this morning...

Thump thump thump thump!! 😡

Driving me nuts!!

I feel your pain every fucking day upstairs and downstairs

No amount of complaining to them, shouting and also banging back stops them. I hate them both so much 😡

I understand as my neighbour upstairs is very heavy footed, but it's what comes with living in flats unfortunately...

You say that you've complained to everyone but have you actually asked your neighbours to quieten down or told them how you feel??

I have lived in 2 first floor flats and my number one rule when I move or if someone moved in after was to ask them to tell me if the noise was too much rather than bang on ceilings/walls or shout because that is just being aggressive and would just get my back up.

Kids make noise... I just tell mine from 6:30/7pm no running up and down halls, jumping or shouting. Same for in the mornings.

I get you OP.
I’m on the 4th floor, we have an intercom system. The guy downstairs regularly forgets his key for the front door. This morning he was buzzing at 3.30am Angry.

Isn’t there some sort of legislation regarding bloody laminate in flats? Sure I heard that somewhere...

Itwasntme1 · 29/02/2020 13:22

My neighbours are heavy footed, and have not carpets upstairs - just bare floor boards🙄.

You can hear everything, every conversation, every footstep, every argument, every romantic moment 🤢.

I have started playing low level bank ground music to try and drown som of it out,

@memememoi yes my very first time I complained I went up to speak to them, smile on face ready to speak calmly she flung the door open nearly taking it off the hinges “what?!” Before I even got out an introduction she was screaming at me for even daring to knock at her door. When I could get a word in edgeways (not shouting or anything) response was more screaming and refusing to accept it was anything other than normal noise. A few hours later she came to my door hammering on it and again had a go for daring to knock and daring to complain.

I’m usually a pretty strong person but I was quite shaken up by her behaviour and that was just the start.

When she got a letter from the council asking them to be considerate of neighbours and conscious of potential noise issues (I was sent a copy it really was very tame) she again came hammering on my door and threatening me and my child, also whenever they (her and husband) they would shout through my door name calling, swearing etc.

That was the point at which I got police involved and admittedly they did back off at that point. Gradually the noise got better and I thought that problem was resolved.

Then thu night/fri morning he came rolling in drunk 2am, got shouted at by another neighbour for trying to go in wrong flat and waking them, shouting and swearing in the close and then banging about when he got in flat.

Again thought and hoped it would be a one off.

Then this mornings nonsense.

I’ve had noisy neighbours before who weren’t aware of how intrusive their noise was and spoken to them and sorted things no problem. I’ve lived in flats pretty much all my life I know and can cope with a normal level of noise. But this is not a normal level of noise.

@GenuineKlatchianPottery we also have an intercom AND there’s been several break ins/burglaries on the lower floors, ha constantly sending letters saying not to let just anyone in, but I’ve been shouted and sworn at for refusing to let in people who won’t say who they are etc and yes sometimes it’s been neighbours, inc him upstairs pissed and can’t get in buzzing at crazy times.

@CaptainButtock I wish! Some councils have brought in rules of that kind for in their properties I think it should be a Uk wide rule myself

To other pps in similar situations I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this Flowers
