AIBU to think a hospital wouldnt inform you you had cancer by letter, theyd do it face to face?

What exactly did your letter say? It should always be face to face, hope you’re ok!!

Thanks Ruby, it's my mum. Had bladder biopsy of red patch 2 weeks ago and Secretary said letter going out yesterday but wouldnt tell her what was in it. She does have a lot of symptoms of bladder cancer and we are all so worried but I'm wondering if its something else now as I think shed have heard before now if it was bad news and not by letter. ?

We need more information please.

RedDiamond · 28/02/2020 19:33

Normally they write to you to say come on in so we can discuss our recent findings etc...

If they suspected Cancer at all, it would be absolutely unprofessional for them to write and tell your Mum this as she would be reading the news with no support in place whatsoever.

fruitandbarley · 28/02/2020 20:15

What other information do you need red diamond?

I would say definitely they would make an appointment to see gp over phone if something as serious as cancer. When my DF had tests which showed lung cancer he received a call within 3 days, and was asked to bring someone to the appointment with him. I would be doubtful it’s anything serious if they’re sending out a letter.

I received my diagnosis in a letter, 7 years ago. So yes it does happen.

Davincitoad · 28/02/2020 20:42

My nana got told Via letter she had lung cancer. 2 months after her originally scan. She had already died of complications. But makes me wonder if she hadn’t got sick with infection that’s a s**t way to find out.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 28/02/2020 20:45

My friend got a letter for an oncology appointment before anyone spoke to her about the biopsy result. So while I wouldn't want to think you would find out that way, it can happen.

gafferareyouthere · 28/02/2020 20:46

My mum was told she had breast cancer in a letter.

TARSCOUT · 28/02/2020 20:50

I got told over the phone however after the investigatory surgery they did tell me they were pretty sure it was cancer so it was more of a confirmation. That's awful to get told by letter if you really have no inkling.
