To expect remediation from workmen who have possibly ruined carpet

I’m having an en-suite renovated so the workmen are using my bedroom for all their gear, tools, they have mixed grout etc. They’ve tried to be careful, laying dust sheets etc but they’ve gone this evening and everything is stacked up for them to continue tomorrow but they’d left a crate right out in the middle of the room.
Rather than trip over it in the night (I thought it was odd they’d left it out) I’ve moved it and they’ve clearly placed it there to hide a rather large dark grey patch on the cream carpet 🙈
They’re good guys and I’m sure it’s been an accident but where do I stand with this? I’ve tried hoovering it up but it’s not budging (I think it charcoal tiling grout). Do I bring it up? Should they pay to clean it? I’m not sure whether this is just tough and part and parcel of having work done?
Any ideas how I should play this? I don’t want to annoy them as we are 2 weeks into an 8 week big renovation job.
Advice would be welcome please? Vote yes for me to say nothing or no to expect remediation / confront them about it.

I'd get it cleaned afterwards. If it doesn't budge it's fair to expect some compensation

I would mention it politely and see what they say. Give them the chance to be upfront about it although the fact that they covered it up with a crate doesn't bode well.

I would take a photo tonight and then as soon as they arrive tomorrow I would ask them when the carpet is being cleaned/sorted.

Accidents do happen but this is their issue to resolve not yours and hiding it under a crate is not going to do them any favours

I should think reputable tradesmen/companies would have insurance for this kind of thing. You must speak to them about it, but not in a confrontational way.

Yes, I'd expect them to pay for cleaning or replacement - they should be insured for it

I've had a carpet trashed in exactly this way by bathroom fitters who just didn't give a shit. I paid for a replacement carpet, since it was a small room, it was not too extortionate.

I think it's reasonable to expect builders to cover carpets, flooring and furniture to protect it from damage.

I would ask them what is on the carpet and whether they will need to replace it or will it clean. They might be cheeky enough to assume you won't mention it.
