Not a poo troll, I promise! And posting here for traffic as the sound of his wailing is breaking my heart!

2 month old DS, EBF so it isn’t a surprise that he hasn’t gone since Sunday morning. He’s gone longish stretches without a dirty nappy before now, but this time is different. He’s in so much pain! He was wailing on and off all night about it and has been grouchy, tired out and waily all day too. It's clearly causing him a lot of discomfort and he is passing a lot of (very smelly!) wind Envy

My baby didn’t poo for 10days ☹️ It’s awful when they are distressed.

If you are EBF could it be something you are eating that’s upsetting him- onions, broccoli etc

Have you tried drinking prune juice? That’s what cleared my daughters issue quite quickly

CatsMother66 · 27/02/2020 19:39

A soak in an Epsom salt bath may help. A quick google says it is safe for babies. Google it for info.

Largeyellowdaffodil · 27/02/2020 19:43

Orange juice with brown sugar- my DD once didnt poo for 2 weeks.

When she did it was unbelievable- she almost evacuated the pub and the landlady took her into her bathroom to hose her off. Then she went again on the way home and we had to stop at a friends and take her home just in a towel.

twinboymumma · 27/02/2020 19:46

A few (and I mean a few!) granules of brown sugar in his milk. That worked a treat for my boys.

Divebar · 27/02/2020 19:46

My DD had a lot of problems going and I’d hear her straining and huffing and puffing. I ended up going to see a paediatric osteopath about a different issue ( to do with feeding) and during the examination they identify some issue with the bowel ( I hadn’t mentioned the poo problem). They treated her for it and lo and behold we had a poo plosion in the car on the way home from appointment. Never had a problem with it again. I can’t tell you what they did but she just gently held her tummy with her fingers ( no discernible movement or manipulation). The centre was in London and please let me know if it’s of interest to you - it’s a charity so they don’t charge but accept donations.

stitchwitch85 · 27/02/2020 19:50

Thank you all so much for replying, I really appreciate it! He’s just woken up and is whimpering again - I’m no wet blanket and I do know that babies cry, but this noise he’s making goes straight to my heart!

He had his jabs at the beginning of this week and I wonder whether this is the result. And to think we were warned about explosive poos after the rotavirus vacc!!

OP posts:
BirdieFriendBadge · 27/02/2020 19:53

Yes I imagine it was the vaccine.

I remember it getting so bad with one of mine that someone suggested wiping their bum hole with a wipe/cloth.

Like how cats lick kittens to make them poo. It really does trigger the bowel. But you may want to protect yourself and the immediate area before you do!

yukka · 27/02/2020 20:02

Vaccinations deff have more of an effect than they let on, and for us took a good week for everything to go back to normal. Lots of tummy massage, clockwise motions and wriggles like you are.

Number3or4 · 27/02/2020 20:05

Have you taken him to a Gp? They can prescribe lactose or something else. Most importantly they will check for anything else that is serious and give you further advice.

Edwardbear1 · 27/02/2020 20:06

Your gp might suggest a Glycerine suppository if you can’t clear the issue yourself

eggandonion · 27/02/2020 20:07

A little vaseline on the hole used to help my ds.

caffeinefix · 27/02/2020 20:18

Cotton wool soaked in warm water and hold it by his anus. It should get things moving.

Ozziewozzie · 27/02/2020 20:22

A Gp once advised me to give my dd brown sugar and water mixed up. It worked a treat. It acts as a laxative. My dd was 3 mths at the time do as long as your child is older, it’s worth a go.
Also heat up a towel in the tumble dryer and lay that in his tum to relax him, then lay him on his back and push his leg back gently to open his rectum more so. I really hope this helps

swingchandelier · 27/02/2020 20:27

It’s not unusual for them not to poo much if breastfed. I think about 2 weeks is when my doctor said to start to be concerned.

Please don’t feed a 2 month old orange juice or sugar......

Cailinnua · 27/02/2020 20:35

Cooled boiled water and brown sugar worked sometimes. My one has never been a pooer, even now at 1.5 years it is only 4 times a week. I asked the doctor about it repeatedly, gave the sugary water at their recommendation.

ZzzMarchhare · 27/02/2020 20:41

Tiger in the tree hold- my youngest it was the only thing to help. It’s a strange sensation on your arm as the trumps roll out.

PointlessAddict · 27/02/2020 20:44

Can they have gripe water at 2 months? Maybe a wee spoon of that

Otherwise tummy massage after a warm bath and cycling his legs when he’s on his back, these helped my youngest when he used to be constipated as a baby

TokenGinger · 27/02/2020 20:44

Whenever we have DS gripe water, that gave him a poopy bum. There was also some drops we'd put in his milk for colic, I think, that made his bum like a tap! We stopped using them but we did put them in his bottle for a few bottles if he was constipated. I think they were called Colief.

Janice88 · 27/02/2020 20:53

Sorry, no advice here: just hugs.
I read to the end hoping to see a big poop update. Pls post when that happens!

stitchwitch85 · 27/02/2020 21:18

No poos yet, but lots of useful advice which we will be trying. DS has had some major farts and is now a lot more cheerful - currently cooing at his daddy whilst being tickled. So nice to have my cheerful baby back!

OP posts:
Toybox88 · 27/02/2020 21:27

A glycerine suppository. But don't use them too often. My DC often went 10 days and was EBF but wasn't in discomfort. I was told though any time it got to day 10 to give a glycerine suppository. They work almost immediately.

Ghdsa1 · 27/02/2020 21:30

What @BirdieFriendBadge said works ie wiping the bumhole gently with baby wipe but also repeatedly lifting there knees right into there chest whilst doing it and alternating with massaging there tummy. My breastfeed baby had exactly the same thing and this worked but be prepared I got poo all over my legs and cheek 😂

Whatsbrownandsticky · 27/02/2020 21:34

I heard the Windi is good for this. Never used it though, and wouldn't.

Ghdsa1 · 27/02/2020 21:35

Also don’t give brown sugar or orange juice omg what terrible advice !! My gp suggested this and Hv was fumeing! Gp can prescribe lactoluse if you want to try it I also used that and its another thing that works. My baby just grew out of the constipation after a while x

Bessica1970 · 27/02/2020 21:36

Sugar and water worked when my end three month old was constipated. Her crying was so loud the old lady in the next caravan knocked to see what was wrong - she gave us the tip, so it was a real ‘old wives tale’ but it worked very quickly.
