To now not want to travel?

We are suppose to be going to Paris next week.
DH doesn't want to go because of the Coronavirus.
I have a compromised immune system due to the medication I am on. Apart from that I am fit and healthy.

I now feel worried and not sure what we should do.

AIBU to be worried?

Our two young children are coming with us to.

What of you fell ill over there?

I wouldn’t risk non essential travel until this is all over.....its killing and spreading by the day

Babdoc · 27/02/2020 10:01

France has had 18 cases so far, including two deaths - one in a Paris hospital. The U.K. has had 15 cases. Your risk is therefore broadly similar whether you stay or go, apart from your exposure to more people in whichever transport hub you would use - airport, ferry or Eurostar.
It’s really your call, OP, but if you would be worried stiff the whole time, it wouldn’t be a very enjoyable trip.
If you do decide to go, take all the precautions you can. Wear gloves the whole time you’re out and about, don’t touch your mouth, nose or eyes with them, remove them and wash your hands as soon as you get indoors. Don’t stand closer than six feet to anyone visibly sweating or coughing. Preferably don’t stand close to anyone, but it may be unavoidable in a busy transport hub!
Face masks are virtually useless, except to stop the wearer spraying their infected sneezes or coughs quite so freely. Virus particles still spray out the back and sides however. Masks become moist from expired breath within 15 minutes and provide a nice warm damp environment to nurture bugs.

Thanks. It kind of feels like it might be better to wait and go when (hopefully) all this is over.

I can't see us enjoying ourselves.

Just got to break it to a very excited 4 year old ☹️

Honestly, if you aren't going to be able to get any of your money back I would wait and see. The picture could change a lot in a week. It's not inconceivable that a week from now you will be safer in paris than here. We just don't know.

DP says we are going....

I'd be most worried about going and getting stuck there due to a quarantine. I would avoid travel where non-essential - not to avoid catching the virus but to avoid getting stuck abroad.

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 27/02/2020 22:40

I’d go. As Babdoc says, France has had 18 cases, the UK has had 15. Exercise good hygiene, and you’re no more at risk there than you are here.

I’ll caveat this with that I’m presuming you’ve got good travel insurance... if you haven’t, that’s a different issue.

BridgeToTerabithia · 27/02/2020 22:46

What about school trips? Would you book extra travel insurance?

dottydoofoo · 28/02/2020 15:13

We have good travel insurance.

I guess my concern is it's a touristy place, so lots of people will be there from all over the world. Not like the little village I live in !

DP still says we are going though.
