I'm blatantly posting here for traffic, sorry!
I've decided I'm going to invest in some period pants. I'm 45 and I've had enough of standard sanpro. I've tried a mooncup but didn't get on with it so want a good eco-friendly alternative.

I have one day when I'm heavy-ish, usually day two, and then the rest of the time my flow is pretty light. So I'm wondering on the light days if I can get away with wearing a good quality pair for a good number of hours, so avoiding having to change the pants out of the house. Or is that just ridiculous and disgusting??

I'm willing to spend money on really decent ones.

So come and tell me your experiences, please.

AIBU to think this could replace all my other sanpro?

I use innersy and really rate them at the start and end of a period. They're really good for containing leaks on heavier days too

bellinisurge · 27/02/2020 09:13

Dd has a mix of Modibodis and reusable pads - some made by me and rather fab.
Her preference for period pants is Modibodi boy short style. She has black ones for school. She does horse riding so they are great for that if the two "H-pads " she has are in the wet bag for washing.

UncleMatthewsEntrenchingTool · 27/02/2020 09:14

Agree Modibodi are great, and also WUKA.

phoenixrosehere · 27/02/2020 09:15

I bought a pair of modibody and love them. I just used the 10% discount on a pair of classic bikini for a heavy flow so it ended up being £18.50. Shipping is free. I bought another pair. They do sell out quickly though.

AlunWynsKnee · 27/02/2020 09:21

I got WUKA pants for dd. She's got quite heavy periods so I got the heavy ones and they're working well for her. They wash well too.

Joining this thread as I've just taken delivery today of two pairs of Cheeky pants and some reusable pads. Trying the pantyliner (as I usually wear disposable ones daily) and I HATE it. It's so lumpy, keeps sliding around and feels so bulky. Worried if this the liner how am I going to feel about the sanitary pads. Am I doing something wrong? Is it a case of trying many brands (can't really afford this tbh)? Am I just going to give it time to adapt to the bulky feel of fabric? I had such high hopes, I hate my periods, find pads so wasteful but hated the mooncup, find tampons painful since having children and was hoping this was my answer! Do still have the pants to try when my period starts in a day or two, but thought the pads seemed best for out and about, as some pp's described above...

bellinisurge · 27/02/2020 11:44

@cheeseismyweakness82 , sorry you had a bad experience.
My dd is lucky because I am good at sewing (dad taught me) so she I make customised pads for her. There are some simple patterns online (and more complicated ones). She has an awesome Star Wars stormtrooper one I made from an old T-shirt of hers, which has some bamboo terry for the core and material from a kids wind pro fleece that doesn't fit her anymore.
As she's got more used to them she likes longer, thicker ones so I make those.

Whatsmyname26 · 27/02/2020 11:49

I use cheeky wipes ones and love them. So much more comfortable than disposable san pro and much more discrete too.

mumpymo · 27/02/2020 11:57

Modibodi for me too. Super comfy and no leaks at all. Currently 21 weeks pregnant and I'll be packing them in my hospital bag to prevent leaks after the birth. I also have the salt cup, tried the femme cycle one and couldn't get it to sit right at all. Salt cup appears to be so much better fit for me. I think with cups it's a case of finding the correct fit for you.

Bambooclock · 27/02/2020 12:00

Cheeseismyweakness - yes, I have found a difference between different brands. I find these rather bulky www.thenappylady.co.uk/panty-liners/cheeky-mama-cotton-ultrapad-liner.html whereas these are fine www.thenappylady.co.uk/panty-liners/bloom-mini-pads-by-bloom-nora.html

cheeseismyweakness82 · 27/02/2020 12:06

Belini I am immensely impressed by your sewing skills, as well as the fact you're reusing items - really makes it sustainable. Sadly I lack any sewing ability (or equipment).

Hmm, thanks for the other feedback - shopping around may be the way to go.

Bloatstoat · 27/02/2020 12:08

I've been trying the cheeky wipes pants for the first time. I've been using one of their reusable sanitary towels with them and changing it a couple of times during the day as easier than changing pants and all good so far, no leaks. I wore just the pants last night but again no leaks. I agree with the pp who said towels feel quite bulky - a bit like old disposable sanitary towels used to feel like before they became super thin - but I don't mind it and I don't find they move around. No irritation which is amazing - I find tampons really uncomfortable and so was the cup I tried and most disposables make me itch. Pleased so far. Wearing just the pants felt weird though, I kept worrying I"d forgotten to use anything! I suspect that's why I don't mind the sanitary towels being more bulky as it reassures me somehow. Once I get used to the idea of the pants I'm sure it will be fine.
I put yesterday's in the wash this morning, but have realised I put softener in automatically so panicking now as someone said upthread not to do this!

Magpiesalute · 27/02/2020 12:18

I have ModiBodi and Thinx. Wouldn't buy Thinx again as I got stung by customs costs.

ModiBodi pretty good but I prefer only using them on lighter days as I don't feel they wick the moisture away as effectively as sanitary towels.

buckeejit · 27/02/2020 12:22

I have a variety of pads - the best are honour your flow.

I have a really heavy couple of days & wear these massive ones at night so I don't have to get up & change during the night. Think I'm too fat for the specific pants but really like the pads. Totally not itchy & sweaty like some disposables

TreacherousPissFlap · 27/02/2020 12:24

I'd like to jump on this thread and ask a rather TMI question if I may?
I am peri-menopausal and suffered horrendous flooding which I now take tranexamic acid for. Effectively this pretty much stops my flow but I still get the clots - I'm guessing these would just sort of sit in the knickers?

DefConOne · 27/02/2020 12:56

I’ve bought the Modibodi teen shorts style ones in black for my 12 year old DD. She has Aspergers and is very disorganised and was hopeless at changing towels during the day, plus the discomfort factor due to her sensory issues. These pants have made her very happy. One less thing for her to be anxious about. She feels completely secure and no leaks at all even in PE.

thecatsthecats · 27/02/2020 12:59

I use Innersy, but in combination with a mooncup. The mooncup is great, but I've rarely managed to eliminate leakage. They're great for reducing cramps!

The first day or two I use a pad for the morning, then the pants are "fresh" for the rest of the day. Then the rest of the time my flow is light enough for the cup to handle. Last two days I don't need the cup at all.

EdinaMonsoon · 27/02/2020 13:00

I used Thinx for two years (stopped as don't have periods any more!). They are brilliant. I bought 3 pairs to start with and subsequently bought another 3. Which means you have one pair in use, one spare and one in the wash. Like others, I would hand wash briefly in cold water and then pop them through the machine. I never paid import tax on mine even though they are sent from the US. They dry quickly if left in an airing cupboard. I went from bleeding through heavy flow sanitary towels in a matter of 30 minutes or less & barely being able to leave the house, to wearing a pair of Thinx for the entire day and feeling very secure. I temporarily switched back to regular sanpro for 1 day and felt so insecure that I couldn't wait to switch back to Thinx.

coffeeagogo · 27/02/2020 13:47

I tried modibodi full briefs for the first time this cycle - I am really impressed. I have a copper coil so am very heavy my first 2 days and i felt dry and secure (tested the first day wfh in case of disaster) but was very confident the next day going a full day in the office + commute (12 hours) in the same pair. I will buy a couple more pairs ready for next month and then when DDs start I will buy them too as DD1 has sensory issues and I can see already that her period is going to be distressing for her in terms of wearing extra pads etc. I am a convert and want to tell everyone how brilliant they are.

PanicAtTheTesco · 27/02/2020 13:54

I bought my elder DD some as she's been flooding at night, and we thought there was no harm in trying other than the cost, which was expensive for the ones we bought (modibodi shorts, £25). First night she wore them - no flooding! She's also worn them during the day at the end of her period with no leaks or discomfort.
