To expect people to read the sign?!

Thoughts?

I have a emergency services shift worker DH and a grumpy poorly baby upstarts sleeping today.

So one out a note on my door which reads "Please do not disturb, thank you"

It's an A4 piece of paper folded in to literally sellotaped in the middle of the door. Impossible not to see.

Already today I've had:

Amazon delivery for next door (I don't order parcels to come when I know DH is going to be asleep)
Workman from over the road asking me to move my car (from my designated and owned parking space)
Random door knocker with nonsense leaflet that could've just come through the letterbox it's junk anyway

All ignore it and knock! --

Why are people so ignorant?!

@SouthernComforts

And DH only works nights every other week too.

I have a baby and a very noisy dog, I've had a wooden sign made, it's very clear and I have not had anyone ignore it yet. I stick it to my door with command Velcro so I can take in on and off as needed. I've also added my phone number in case it's urgent.

We also have a ring doorbell but I don't plug the chime in if DS is sleeping, so I get the phone notification but no noise. It also notifies when someone is near the door so I can get there or speak to them via the camera before they can knock.

@faracrossthepond fair enough, but the person choosing which house is the safest bet to break into might take that sign as a possibility of an empty house. Do what you like though, obviously.

@Molly I'd nick your "signed Cello".

Oh my goodness I am reliving my experience of this ..., I had exactly the same when my babies were new born and it meant I never got a sleep as always being disturbed or else it was many phone calls.

Selfish, selfish people. I like the advice in previous messages about taping down knocker. Perhaps a really big sign on a piece of cardboard on front door. "Go Away"

I wouldn't put night shift worker on the note. Don't let anyone think your house might be empty most nights!!

I'd put something like "One of us works nights" rather than "I work nights".

I couldn't find a standalone YT link for it, but does anybody else remember the answering machine sketch in The Sketch Show (with Lee Mack and Ronni Ancona)? They were going on holiday and kept repeatedly re-recording the message to cover every eventuality should a burglar call and realise they were away!

I'd nick your "signed Cello"

Didn't it say 'sign cello TAPED'? I presume it's a mix-tape of favourite Julian Lloyd-Webber pieces Grin
