Was I right to call in sick

On my way home last night (about 10:30, had been doing my hobby not out drinking or anything) I started feeling incredibly nauseous. When I got home I felt horrible and instinctively went and sat on the bathroom floor for a bit. At about 11:00 I vomited copiously. Afterwards I felt a bit wobbly but otherwise mostly alright so I just went to bed to sleep it off. This morning I feel pretty much ok, just a little washed out, although I haven't really tried eating or drinking yet. I was only sick the once and I'm not sure why. I'm feeling a bit guilty as I probably feel alright to be in work but I don't want to potentially infect people! AIBU to have called in sick?

48 hours clearance from last bout of sickness is the general policy, so i would be off tomorrow too unless you are sick again!

Fx you feel better soon

Coffeeandcrumpet · 26/02/2020 07:45

I guess it depends where you work really

ThankfullyAlive · 26/02/2020 07:46

No. I would have too. There is always tomorrow.

justcleanyourbloodyteeth · 26/02/2020 07:46

Are you seriously asking this?? No of course you should have gone to work and spread around whatever but you possibly have.
AIBU is ridiculous at times Hmm

Frenchw1fe · 26/02/2020 07:47

It sounds a bit like labrynthitis. Probably best not to drive for the rest of today so yes don't go to work.
I get this occasionally, I feel really wobbly and nauseous although I have never been sick. It takes a day to get back to normal.

Scapegoatforlife · 26/02/2020 07:52

I'm ill every month with one thing or another. I genuinely couldnt afford to take that much time off for each thing so just power through tbh

CeeceeBloomingdale · 26/02/2020 08:06

48 hour rules onlysm seem to apply to primary schools and hospitals. My DDs high school and my work would both expect us to be in the minute vomiting stopped. Not saying that's right but I'd have gone in if I could under that basis.

JudyCoolibar · 26/02/2020 08:17

Could it be an allergy? One of the first significant signs I had of an allergy to something was waking up in the middle of the night feeling suddenly nauseous, being very sick, but waking up the next morning feeling fine. It was only several months later, after one or two similar reactions, that I remembered I'd eaten something that night that would have had significant amounts of the allergen in it.

whatareyoucooking · 26/02/2020 08:41

I had to pull over on the way to work last week to vomit. But once I had done so I felt absolutely fine and carried on my journey.
I think I know why mine was though (had recently started new medication). I would've felt really guilty having a day off. PLUS I'm on a induction/trial year and I dared to have two days off in October so it would've triggered a sickness something or other procedure Hmm

ilovesooty · 26/02/2020 08:53

You haven't been able to eat or drink. Staying at home seems sensible to me.

diddl · 26/02/2020 09:11

So you vomited last night at 11, don't feel great this morning & haven't had anything to eat or drink yet?

Def home!

I had something similar a bit ago.

Felt sick & dizzy, eventually threw up.

Slept, felt reasonable in the morning, pleased that I'd only been sick the once.

Had breakfast & bloody well threw up againHmm

Bluesheep8 · 26/02/2020 09:12

Personally I wouldn't call in sick if I was just sick once at night and was ok the next day.

ohnooutofdateham · 26/02/2020 09:14

It depends where you work I think.

TheOrigBrave · 26/02/2020 09:15

Do you feel hungry? Maybe it was food poisoning, though you can usually tell as the bad food is the first thing to come up and you never want to eat that thing again.
