So I'm sat here in a panic and going to call the doctors first thing as I've now started to feel scared. A couple of months ago I noticed one of my thighs seemed thinner than the other and tonight it's even more noticeable. I've been having a tingling/burning sensation in them both. I've done dr google and I'm now terrified of what it could be. Has anyone had similar? Are you fine? PMT anxiety is making me feel 10x worse too. I don't exercise so it can't be that. Really scared :(

Depending on the level of difference it's highly likely it's normal asymmetry - we all favour one side over the other to a degree. Do you have any injuries or ailments that limit movement on one side? I.e. I once tore my meniscus in my knee, by the time I started physio there was a noticeable difference in size between my thighs, my partner broke their ankle years back, the calf on that side is much smaller because there isn't the range of movement in the ankle joint on that side.
Speak to your GP but there are plenty of benign trains for this (lack of exercise could be one reason by itself)
Do you usually suffer with health anxiety?

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/02/2020 20:39

Do you have health anxiety. If so step away from google, you can find a million rare diseases that sort of fit your symptoms

Have you measured your thighs and checked if your perception is correct. They are unlikely to be exactly identical as most people have a dominant foot just like you have a dominant hand.

Is the tingling and burning recent? I used to get terrible burning in my thighs with ovulation and periods as I had endometriosis and I assume the nerves were getting irritated.

Thank you for the replies. Health anxiety- maybe but there is a definite difference. My legs are probably the one part of my body I actually like so it's noticeable to me. I have a bit lower back pain but on the opposite side so not sure if that could be a reason. No sign of endometriosis. Generally healthy apart from being a bit fat! Maybe i need to exercise (defo do) and lose weight and get a massage or something. Must admit dr google has had be fearing muscular atrophy, ms and all sorts of awful things.

Low back pain and burning in the thighs would make me wonder if you have a bulging disc. I have a couple of bulging discs in my upper back and they cause pins and needles in my arm and hands. It’s normally a sign I haven’t moved and stretched enough.

I agree with PP that a bulging disc can cause the burning feeling. For a while mine in my lower back flared up and made me walk lopsided without even realising, which made one leg weaker and gave me some hip issues for a while. Could be something worth looking into? I've had two slipped discs and both have taken over a year each to finally be diagnosed. For some reason the doctors I've seen were always reluctant to look into it.

Ah that sounds relatively reassuring Chaz. Much less scary! Thank you

HoneyBee03 that sounds totally plausable- feel better already! Who would have thought I'd be hoping for a bulging disc!

Apparently they are far more common than we realise! My slipped discs have given me some bizarre symptoms over the years. I'd suggest seeing your doctor and see what path they send you down. Mine were diagnosed with an MRI scan when they couldn't figure out the problem.
